McDonald's Launches 'Big Arch' Burger in Major Market. Is It the New
    Big Mac?
The burger was unveiled with a massive marketing campaign.
    Anne BucherJun 19, 2025 6:00 AM EDT

That's the name of the oversized burger the chain launched with great
fanfare on June 18 in the United Kingdom. Some think the mega burger
could be headed to the U.S. soon.

Reviews were mixed, although some believe the Big Arch could end up
    rivaling the Big Mac.

"The Big Arch burger is what a Big Mac once was," one man wrote on X.
Another person called it a "new restyled Big Mac."

Although the burger was first rolled out in more limited fashion as a
pilot program in 2023, McDonald's just gave it a major, sweeping
public relations-fueled rollout in the UK.

But not everyone was a fan. "What an absolutely disastrous
disappointing overpriced burger which quickly turned into a huge pile
of mess. It's certainly big but far too much over powering smokey and
tangy sauce," wrote another X user.

[Even the promotional photo on the McDonald's website shows the sauce
    spilling over. -KS]

"The Big Arch is definitely a need for sauce-lovers, as its signature
sauce covers most of the burger. I found the sauce was oozing out of
the burger on each bite and required a fair number of napkins as I
began to see the distinct yellow marking my hands and the table around
me," wrote the Manchester Evening News.

What an absolutely disastrous disappointing overpriced burger which
quickly turned into a huge pile of mess. It's certainly big but far
too much over powering smokey and tangy sauce.
The bun disintegrated within a couple of bites, lettuce, crispy onions
and the Big Arch sauce just covered the burger box and table.
I wanted to take a photo of the mess but my fingers and hands were
    absolutely covered in unpleasant sauce.
I would not dare to try and eat this burger in a car unless you want
    your seats and floor covered.
Within 10 minutes of eating I felt myself dealing with the most awful
indigestion and needed 2 Toffee Crisp McFlurrys to try to douse the
    flames of hell ??
I won't be eating another one.

Well fuck it if the souce is mayo-based which it probably is.

The Big Mac Secret Sauce is mayo-based, moron. And it's delicious.

I understnad that klous but there are many phter ingreidnet's in it also,
and up until recently they didn't add a obscene amount of the souce and you could ACTUALLY TASTE the other 6 ingredient's on the big mac. These day',s all you can taste is souce.

Yes u eating mostly (or only) fast food can affect your taste buds and
how you experience flavors. HereAs how:

    1. Salt and Sugar Sensitivity

Fast food tends to be very high in salt and sugar. Eating it often can
dull your sensitivity to these flavors, so "normal" foods (like
fruits, vegetables, or lightly seasoned meals) may taste bland.

Over time, your threshold for sweetness and saltiness can increase,
making you crave stronger flavors to feel satisfied.

    2. Fat and Flavor Additives

Many fast foods are engineered with flavor enhancers, fats, and
additives that overstimulate your brainAs reward system.

This can "train" your palate to expect hyper-intense flavors, which
makes natural, less-processed foods taste less appealing.

    3. Reduced Flavor Variety

If you stick to a narrow diet of burgers, fries, pizza, etc., your
taste buds get less exposure to the wide range of flavors in whole
foods (herbs, spices, bitter greens, subtle fruit flavors).

This can shrink your appreciation for complex or subtle tastes.

    4. Possible Physical Effects on Taste Buds

High sugar and processed food intake can contribute to inflammation in
the mouth and even affect oral health (like coating on the tongue),
which can interfere with taste perception.

Some research also suggests diet affects the turnover rate of taste
receptor cells, which could influence sensitivity.

Good news: Taste buds regenerate about every 1u2 weeks. If someone
cuts back on fast food and shifts to fresher, less processed foods,
their taste sensitivity usually improves u sometimes dramatically
    within a month or two.

Can't imagine you going for more than a few days without fast food,
    though.
