• Is there a FF extension that not only hides, but also blocks videos and media?

I've been using the "Image Video Block" extension for ages, because I
have limited data allowance at home.

I have also configured FF to block autoplay of videos, but sometimes
they just start, even with the extension on.

Can extension literally block the download of the streamed video, and if
    so, which one does?

Not tried it, but within about:config what does media.navigator.video.enabled=false do?

uBlock says the primary purpose of its "no large media elements"
feature is to save bandwidth, so it might work better:

    https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Per-site-switches#no-large-media-elements

Or it might have the same trouble due to media missing the
    Content-Length header, as described there.

I use NoScript with all scripts disabled by default and only
white-listed as required, which conveniently blocks sites from
loading videos as well. Except it lets through videos that are
really high-frame-rate GIF images. But for those, and blocking the
really big still image sizes people are using now (10MB PNGs of
photos! People have gone insane!), I installed this large image
    blocker extension:

    Ottavio,

Another possibility (that I use) is not having the h264 DLL available. iow, find and rename it (as a test to see how it works for you). Its probably in the "gmp" directory.
