• Firefox Dropping 32bit Linux support in 2026

That'll be bad for me running it on my x86 Eee PC, which does still
work quite well for most things I do. EOL for Firefox 140 ESR is
    October 13 2026.

Was that one of the Linux Eee PCs with Star Office? I had one. V e
    r y s l o w.

The recent Debian release no longer supports 32-bit processors.
Fortunately I managed to update the CPU in my 2006 Thinkpad to a
later 64-bit one so I can now run the same 64-bit Debian as my
desktop. But the mobo chipset only supports 32bit memory
addressing so I still have a limit of 4Gb of memory. A bit less
    in fact.

Most things work but it sometimes crashes playing videos, which
takes xfce down. I suspect it may be the built-in graphics which
    is not quite supported.

Just about small enough to fit in a pants pocket. I used it as a portable terminal into a Linux server at a clientrCOs place -- I could watch the log messages from my Asterisk-based application while coordinating with an operator was making calls to test a new version of the code.

I've only had it a few years. It originally had XP installed but
the SSD was faulty and had wrecked that when I got it. I
repartitioned in the upper half of the SSD and installed Linux
there - a lightweight distro that still fits easily in that space.

Inappropriate software choices (including things like the window
    manager) might make it "V e r y s l o w". Mine mainly run
lightning quick. The exception is Firefox which is quite slow to
start, but even some relatively complex sites like OpenStreetMap
run well in it once it's going (and with RAM upgraded to the 2GB
maximum). I prefer Dillo for browsing simpler websites anyway.

The recent Debian release no longer supports 32-bit processors.

It's running Tiny Core Linux, which isn't Debian based so no
    problem there.

Sounds similar to the Thinkpad with a Core 2 Duo CPU I run current
x86_64 Devuan on. No crashes there but it has AMD Radeon graphics.
The Eee PC plays videos fine for me too, but I re-encode downloaded
videos at less demanding resolutions and formats. Also I never play
videos in Firefox anywhere, that seems wrong to me in all sorts of
    ways.

Mine ran fine under KDE Plasma 4, with all the real-time 3D effects nice
and smooth. Remember when MicrosoftrCOs Windows Vista struggled to match
that functionality with its rCLAero GlassrCY interface, that would only work properly on higher-end, more expensive hardware.

That issue led to lawsuits over the confusion between rCLVista-capablerCY and rCLVista-readyrCY: one of them meant that Vista would run, but without the effects. I forget which was which, and naturally the users couldnrCOt keep
it straight either, hence the lawsuits.

Yes, it was a core duo T2300E and it's now a core 2 duo T7200. So
it's no longer a R60e but it's not exactly an R60 or an R61. If
I'm right about the inadequate graphics there are vaious gfx
adapters that might fit. But some might need a different display
panel... It was worth -u6 for the CPU, but I'm not going to spend
    a lot on it.

I still use it because it has a good keyboard.

Yes, that was it: I was trying to remember how it failed. We were
on a yacht in the Mediterranean and used to take it ashore in the
evening looking for a meal and a weather forecast and to collect
email. After a meal we would sometimes prowl about the streets of
harbour towns with it looking for an insecure wifi connection -
    which I wouldn't do with a full-size laptop.

This was before I got a Nokia N810 tablet for that purpose. (Which
was the first mobile device to run Firefox.)

Because of year 2038 issue, you really should migrate to 64-bit OS!!
Sooner or later all 32-bit stuffs would lose support, just like 16-bit
    and back then 8-bit.

I got an old iPad that ran 32-bit iOS ... no more updates now. :)

While that may be true, the year-2038 problem isnrCOt going to be one of the reasons. The Linux kernel has been updated so it can be built with a 64-
bit time_t even on 32-bit architectures.

Notice all the recent Debian packages with rCLt64rCY in their names? Those are the ones that needed updating for 64-bit time_t on 32-bit architectures.
