• No SMS 2FA code from Yahoo Mail... AGAIN!!

    From Mr. Man-wai Chang@toylet.toylet@gmail.com to alt.comp.software.firefox on Mon Aug 25 13:47:11 2025

Can you receive SMS verification code from Yahoo Mail today(25 Aug 2025)?

I could not receive any SMS 2FA messages when logging in Yahoo Mail from
Hong Kong. And I dunno how to report it to Yahoo, without paying money.

I've had problems with some sites that just do not send the codes, but
will not send the codes. They demand landline or mobile number. They
won't send to my Google Voice phone number. Their excuse is that codes
cannot be sent to GV yet everyone else manages to do it. It's THEY that
    refuse to do it.

Sometimes such anal retentive sites have an alternate method of
delivering the code, like sending it to the e-mail address in your
account. Since you are trying to get into your Yahoo account, and that
might be your e-mail address, they probably have a recovery e-mail
address you can specify. Once defined, see if you can have the code
sent to your recovery e-mail address.

Do you have a different phone number that can receive SMS texts other
than the one currently recorded in your Yahoo account? If so, change to
the other phone number to see if then you can get the codes.

This is SOOO annoying. I keep an old cellphone ($10/year) up to date
just to receive 2FA codes. Some entities will send to email, but ONE of
them is unable to change from that old phone number. Small change, but
it's annoying. The Pixel2 can take e-sim, and Keepgo can convert the
data SIM that uses google voice to an e-sim, but I'm thinking of getting
a newer phone so I have't pursued that yet.

Potential inexpensive or possibly even free alternatives: (1) "burner
phone" and a sim card that has very low or even no fees for text msgs,
or (2) establish a new gmail account (free) and then in your yahoo mail settings, forward all incoming mail to the new gmail address. Gmail has
2FA as an option. It also has the option to send e-mail as if it is originating from a different e-mail address (such as your problematic
    yahoo email address).

I think this has been blocked due to the implementation of DMARC, SPF
and DKIM. They are enforcing these rigorously. I used to send domain
emails using third-party SMTP server on Gmail and Outlook, but I can't
    do that anymore.

And what has this to do with Firefox?

When using Firefox to access Yahoo's webmail access, does Yahoo then not
push their 2FA security theater? That is, can you skip Yahoo's 2FA
requirement for login because you used their webmail client? Nope. So
the OP and perhaps Bev are using Firefox to access Yahoo Mail, but they
don't get the 2FA code to complete the login. Yes, they could try using
a different web browser (not a Firefox variant) to see if magically they suddenly start getting login codes, but I severely doubt getting the
codes sent has nothing to do with which web browser connects to Yahoo
    Mail.

How can YOU guarantee that a site does not alter behavior in sending 2FA
codes depending on which web browser connects to the site? You can't.

Which one do you suggest that is still active, and discusses sending of
2FA from sites (and which software and services they use to do so) and
cellular carriers in handling their reception and delivery of the codes?
I would also like to know the name of that newsgroup.

I know I can use email 2FA and it's my only option to login Yahoo Mail
now. SMS 2FA was working fine then it suddenly started to fail.
