    Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (x64)
    Firefox 115.27.0 esr (x64)

When I launch Firefox, Task Manager shows NINE instances running with
various sizes and CPU times. I have only the single basic tab open. I
have not selected any URI to visit. The home page is my bookmarks file.

Is this necessary? Can I prevent this?

Trump fired the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics because
she REPORTED THE TRUTH about a weakening labor market. How can
we now trust any economic data from the federal government?

Interesting, same behavior here. Started FF, which had been in memory before and prevented my default page from starting.

Rebooted and after the boot was complete tried just FF again. Same behavior.

Win 7 Pro SP1 (x64) and same Firefox version.

I am an experienced multi-task and multi-system application developer. The various memory sizes might be a clue as to thier function. No idea why that many cooperating processes are used.

I was a 30+ year software test engineer until I retired 22 years ago.
These multiple instances of Firefox look to me as a bug. If I do not
see a good answer soon, I will visit Bugzilla.

Specifically, check about:memory to see information on specific
    processes. It's a feature, not a bug.
