Good find, another obscure poet in the spotlight.
There are hundreds of people like Trench (clerics who also wrote poetry) back in the 17th-19th centuries. Becoming a priest was the easiest path for someone with literary ambitions. Trench had a long and successful career, making his way up to archbishop of the (anglican) Church of Ireland.
This isn't a great poem, by any means, but it's part of a set of four he wrote, on the four seasons, which gives it more weight. I plan to post the other three over the next year.
