    AUTUMN WHISPERS

    Blow, Autumn breezes, and scatter your gold
    Hither and yon as in Autumns of old.
    Summer is fading, the leaves tumble down
    Dappled with orange, and scarlet, and brown.

    Pan pipes a tune in the faraway hills,
    Visions of wanderlust stir Jacks and Jills;
    Singing of wonders that Autumntime brings
    Calling to vagabonds, gypsies, and kings.

    Singing of pumpkin pies, harvest-filled bins,
    Pumpkin patch schoolboys with candy corn grins,
    Barrels of cider and bushels of grain,
    Leaf-piles of laughter, it's Autumn again.

    Blow, Autumn breezes, with whispers of frost
    Whispers of oldentimes, loved ones we've lost,
    Whispers of coming days, lost 'neath the snow
    Whispers of golden times long, long ago.

    The pumpkins and their friends salute you!

    My thanks to you, and pumpkins everywhere.

    My pumpkin patch was a bust this year -- except for providing my yard with beautiful orange flowers all Summer. This morning there was still one flower blooming. Unfortunately, there wasn't a pumpkin in sight.
