    QUOTE:
The heartbroken owner of a bike shop on the high street for 30 years
says he has been forced into shutting the business after a “very tough” 2024. Customers say the impending closure of Romney Cycles just weeks
into the new year will be a “loss to the community”.

Owner Steve James addressed loyal patrons of the New Romney business,
saying: “It’s with great sadness, and the hardest decision I’ve had to make, that Romney Cycles will be closing its doors. It’s been a very
tough year for a lot of small bike shop businesses with many having to
close. We were hoping to ride that storm but it’s no longer viable to
    keep going".
    ENDQUOTE

So just as it looked (to some) as though people were going to change
en-masse from viable and efficient transport modes over to fairy-bikes,
    it didn't happen?

But whatever made anyone think it WAS going to happen?

A combination of wishful thinking and aggressive use of pavements (‘footways’).

Plus, in the last few days:

    “FRI, DEC 20, 2024 10:26

British cycling company Spoon Group, the owner-operator of bespoke bike
brands Spoon Customs and WyndyMilla, as well as custom paint business Gun Control, has entered liquidation, following extensive efforts to adapt to
what the group’s owner described as the ongoing “challenging market conditions” affecting the bike industry in recent years.”
