'open' face was assumed to be 'more honest' ?

But NOW ... Vance, Cruz, the Trump boys and more
'celebs' ... beards are back. They are perceived
as 'masculine', 'powerful', today.

No, I don't see Donald growing one - but expect to
see a lot more in the higher-up ranks.

The wokies will want to legally BAN them because
the tranny 'boys' probably can't grow good ones :-)

NOT sure we'll see the 19th-century examples
however - some of those pols had ridiculously
long, ZZ-TOPish, beards. Those were less
'masculine' and more 'fetish'.
