CBS News host Gayle King took issue with those who referred to
her eight minutes in space — with an all-female, celebrity-heavy
“crew” — as “a ride,” arguing that it was sexist and “disrespectful”
to do so.
. . .
Those ARE "rides" ... nobody onboard is or can be
in control. You go straight up, then fall straight
down. It's just an expensive carnival ride.
Bezos never said it was anything but "tourism".
Alas, these flights kinda devalue the term "astronaut".
Proper astronauts are highly trained, capable of
taking charge, "space pilots". It's the big diff
between an airliner captain and the passengers in
the economy seats.
Musk's latest polar-orbiting crew ... not sure
I'd call them 'astronauts' either - that flight
was all ground-control too. At least they got
into a proper orbit ....
I guess CBS will now demand that Jeff scrap the
penis-looking rocket and instead build titty-looking
"flying saucers" instead ? :-)
