No, not the later band ...
"Commando Cody" was a Republic Serial from the early/mid
1950s. For the ignorant gens, "serials" were short amusing
features show before the main movie in theaters. They were
very popular from the 1930s thru early 1960s. Sci-fi
serials were very common. "Flash Gordon" was an early
one, but after WW2 there were many. Most were 20-30
minutes.
They typically figured big brawls every 10 minutes or
so, super spaceships and everybody carries a .38
revolver. Leaping out of speeding cars was also
especially common. Ray guns. Nukes dropped in
volcanoes, high adventure !
"Cody" was supposed to be a sort of top tech guy
with his own aerospace-type company. He had a
rocket capable of reaching the moon quickly,
later Venus. Cool leather jacket with a jet pak
that let him fly. Sets/props were brutally
re-used across story arcs. Esp liked the
moon, later Venus, "tank" with the stylish
tail-fins :-)
The first Cody "Radar Men From The Moon" featured
Clayton Moore - Lone Ranger - as a thug working
for the lunar invaders. Yes, his acting was just
as wooden ....
Second Cody story arc, "Sky Marshals", they'd
replaced the lead - but put the new guy in a
Ranger-like MASK, hoping nobody would notice :-)
Anyway, these are Real Americana. Entire stories
can be had on YouTube. Start :

Of cultural note - Cody's main squeeze kinda changed
from 50's secretarial garb to a jump-suit and she knew
how to pilot the rocket. Early early "Womens Lib".
