Highlights: NASA astronauts return to Earth after an unexpected nine-month stay in space

The entire Crew-9 team — NASA’s Butch Wilmore, Suni Williams and Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov — made a safe touchdown off the coast of Florida Tuesday evening.

Within an hour after their 5:57 p.m. ET splashdown, their capsule was
hauled onto a recovery ship, safety checks were completed, and the
astronauts disembarked their spacecraft on rolling chairs as their bodies begin readjusting to life with gravity.

While they were still on board the SpaceX recovery ship, the four
astronauts were expected to undergo health checks, ensuring no medical emergencies need to be addressed.

Issues can arise: When SpaceX’s Crew-8 mission returned last year, the
four astronauts had to be ferried to a hosptial in Florida rather than returning to their home base in Houston right away because of an
undisclosed medical issue. The step was taken out of an abundance of
caution, NASA said at the time.

After they clear medical checks, the Crew-9 team will travel by helicopter
to an airport in Florida, where they will board a flight to Houston’s Ellington Field. The airstrip is just down the road from NASA’s Johnson Space Center — the space agency center that astronauts call home.

Once back home, the NASA astronauts will continue to undergo medical
checks until they’re cleared by flight surgeons.

“In those initial days…we’re surrounded by flight surgeons who look after
us, and we’re just getting used to life in 1G — life back on Earth after being weightless for so many months,” said NASA astronaut Warren “Woody”
Hoburg, who piloted SpaceX’s Cew-6 mission in 2023.

Political and space officials celebrate Crew-9 return — with some
    crediting Trump and Musk
From CNN's Elise Hammond and Jackie Wattles
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk was among the space and political officials who congratulated his company and NASA for bringing Crew-9 back from the International Space Station today.

Musk thanked the teams on X for “another safe astronaut return” and President Donald Trump “for prioritizing this mission.”

If Vice-President Harris had won the election, nothing would have
changed; that's the point of the OP.

The poster said "Musk also had UTTERLY nothing to do with their

    *Not* Musk.

    His rockets did.

Rockets that he didn't design, didn't build and didn't launch.

His company enabled it to happen within two days. A feat DEI queer-
infested Boeing failed to accomplish over 9 months later.

Elon Musk's Space X safely brought stranded NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore
and Suni Williams back down to earth on Tuesday, marking a triumphant conclusion to an eight-day voyage that overran some nine months.

He offered and was turned down.

    Correct.
And according to Musk it was political.

It certainly was. Boeing loaded up on DEI hires who couldn't tell the difference between left and right hand threading so they had leaks.
They felt threatened and cried to Biden who said no.

    "DEI" the new "Jews".

Half of White Men's "accomplishments" were stolen from women and
minorities. Every body thinks Edison invented the light bulb, but it was
Lewis Latimer that made it actually workable.

    *Not* Musk.

    His rockets did.

Rockets that he didn't design, didn't build and didn't launch.

But, rockets that he owns. i.e. His rockets did.

Sure did. Flew up Sunday, came home with the goods on Tuesday.

    Hat tip to Elon.

Hat tip to NASA for paying for it, via an August 2024 contract date.
    Hardly an 'overnight' thing.

The Boing rocket was a test flight - and like all test flights, they
found some problems. A spaceX Dragon capsule was docked at the station
since last September. The delays had more to do with budget and other technical factors - and getting another crew ready to go up.

    For an exorbitant fee.

Not nearly as much as the incompetent DEI Boeing queers were charging over
9 months of failure during the Biden tenure.

    Fuck off, Nazi filth.

You're the expert, show us how.

From where I sit the problem with Boeing and NASA to a lesser degree is that they
are ancient organizations using ancient design and manufacturing techniques. IOW they haven't moved into the 21st century and are still operating like
    it's the 1970's.
SpaceX OTOH starting from scratch implemented and built the company from the ground
up using the most modern and efficient methods.

Bottom line is I'll bet Boeing employees hear a lot of "but we've never done it like this before" kind of ideology.
It's a classic sign of a dying company.

there are two different rocket types spacex is flying, first is
the falcon 9, which launches almost every week with no issues and
is the one on which crew 10 flew and returned the other
    astronauts to earth.

the second is the experimental starship, emphasis on EXPERIMENTAL
and has never been used for any payloads, let alone humans. do
    not mix the two.

anyway so, today you have learnt something new.

    the process.

    No they didn't.

    =============
March 6 (Reuters) - SpaceX's massive Starship spacecraft exploded in
    space
on Thursday minutes after lifting off from Texas, prompting the FAA to
    halt
air traffic in parts of Florida, in the second straight failure this year
for Elon Musk's Mars rocket program.

The failure of the eighth Starship test comes just over a month after the
seventh also ended in an explosive failure. The back-to-back mishaps
occurred in early mission phases that SpaceX has easily surpassed
previously, a setback for a program Musk had sought to speed up this
    year.

there are two different rocket types spacex is flying, first is the
falcon 9, which launches almost every week with no issues and is the one
on which crew 10 flew and returned the other astronauts to earth.

the second is the experimental starship, emphasis on EXPERIMENTAL and
has never been used for any payloads, let alone humans. do not mix the two.

anyway so, today you have learnt something new.

SpaceX's Starship explodes in space, which Musk calls a 'minor setback'

The Federal Aviation Administration briefly issued ground stops at the
Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach and Orlando airports because of "space
launch debris." It said it had opened a mishap investigation into the
    incident.

The Starship failure in January ended eight minutes into flight when the
rocket exploded, raining debris over Caribbean islands and causing minor
damage to a car in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

A lawyer named Strange was shopping for a tombstone. After he had
made his selection, the stonecutter asked him what inscription he
would like on it. "Here lies an honest man and a lawyer," responded the lawyer.
"Sorry, but I can't do that," replied the stonecutter. "In this
state, it's against the law to bury two people in the same grave. However,
I could put ``here lies an honest lawyer'', if that would be okay."
"But that won't let people know who it is" protested the lawyer.
"Certainly will," retorted the stonecutter. "people will read it
    and exclaim, "That's Strange!"
