So we're doing crossword clues? Here's NYT Monday version

    1. An ancient Irishman
    2. At the confluence of the Ille and Vilaine rivers

Those crossword clues are not in the least cryptic.

How about - 1) Disturbed winter sleep without additional play.

    2) A herd of caribou in Quebec.

They're cryptic enough to confuse me.

Is it Hibs and Lille? I'm just guessing because of Ille being
similar to Lille; I haven't got time to e-mail my French friend and
ask where the Ille and Vilaine Rivers are and wait for her reply.

Rennes (French pronunciation: [ʁɛn] ⓘ; Breton: Roazhon [ˈrwɑːõn]; Gallo: Resnn; Latin: Condate Redonum) is a city in the east of
Brittany in Northwestern France at the confluence of the rivers Ille
and Vilaine. Rennes is the prefecture of the Brittany region and Ille-et-Vilaine department.

So my picks were Hibernian and Rennes

Assuming it is, I'll go for St. Mirren

You can change your pick if you like

    I'll go for Lille.

    https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/dun

I believe these days it's mostly used for the coats of horses and the like?

Definitely used for horses (I get lectures from my daughter the vet on
horse coat colour regularly, explaining why white horses are really
grey, except when they are white. And so on).

It was the most transparent definition of dun I could come up with, I

    What to do
    -----------

Look at the fixtures below: do you play home or away?

    *Home*
    - Before Thursday (= before 2025/2/12, 23:59 GMT)
=- Pick one team from each of the two matches

    *Away*
=- After Wednesday (or even sooner, if the home player has picked their teams) and before kickoff of the first match on Saturday 2025/2/15
    - Pick one of the teams not picked by your opponent (if they haven't
picked any team, you have free choice; if she is Lassie and there is a
    tie, diregard the last vote)
=- their opponents will represent your opponent
