Unsophisticated Prediction Tiers Season 60 - League ARG/BRA Match Day 4
    (2024/11/23-24)

    What to do
    -----------

Look at the fixtures below: do you play home or away?

    *Home*
    - Before Thursday (= before 2024/11/20, 23:59 GMT)
=- Pick one team from each of the two matches

    *Away*
=- After Wednesday (or even sooner, if the home player has picked their
teams) and before kickoff of the first match on Saturday 2024/11/23
    - Pick one of the teams not picked by your opponent (if they haven't
picked any team, you have free choice; if she is Lassie and there is a
    tie, diregard the last vote)
=- their opponents will represent your opponent

*ATTENTION: NEW RULE*: If the away player doesn't pick any team before
his/her deadline, the home player will be represented by the team that
achieves the best outcome out of his/her two picked teams.
If the home player doesn't pick any team before his deadline, the away
player can pick two teams (one from each match), and he/she will be
represented by the team that achieves the best outcome out of his/her
    two picked teams.
If nobody picks a team, teams are assigned randomly.

    Inter-tier match

    MH    -    The Doctor
         Gimnasia   -   Atlético Tucumán
         Paysandu   -   Vila Nova

    1. Paysandu
    2. Gimnasia

If Mirasol and Novorizontino get promoted (they are close) it would be
the first time for both in Serie A, right?  Any story behind their rise,
    Lleo or Jesus ?

Countryside São Paulo is very rich compared to the rest of the
country. Their investment capacity, combined with a modicum of
organization, can yield results like this. On the other hand, the
Campinas rivals are also from countryside SP and are heading downwards
    to Série C...

oh wait, I just realised - both of them?

Would that be a good trivia question - cross-town
rivals that get relegated at the same time?

I think both Sampdoria and Genoa went down in the
    same year once?

    Ciao,
    Werner

    so it's not *just* money.

Pretty sure Hibs and Hearts were once relegated the same year. Possibly
Dundee and Dundee United, though I don't think so.
I would not be surprised if at one point two of the lesser Moscow teams
    had gone down simultaneously.
And I think Betis and Sevilla both went down one year.

    Yup. 2014.

    apparently not.

I would not be surprised if at one point two of the lesser Moscow teams
    had gone down simultaneously.
But I can't really say what the big rivalries are there. Spartak - CSKA, Spartak - Lokomotiv, CSKA-Lok perhaps. Dunno about Torpedo and Dynamo
    though.

As for London I am pretty two rivals would have gone down at the same
time, but I don't think two of the big three ever did.

And I think Betis and Sevilla both went down one year.
    Had to look it up.
Yes Sevilla and Betis both went down in 2000, along with .... Atletico
    Madrid.

From what I can tell, there have never been cross-city rivals
relegated in the same year. But there have been some other interesting
    seasons:

1982-83: Roma wins the championship (first time in 40 years), Lazio is
    promoted from Serie B

1959-60, 2005-2006, 2011-2012: Juventus wins the championship, Torino is promoted.[*]

2002-2003: Juventus wins the championship, Torino is relegated

2022-2023: Genoa is promoted, Sampdoria is relegated

[*] No asterisks needed, those are the facts.

    2-0 up, to compensate.

Can't argue with that, what's fair is fair!
