The Mello-Harps and The Hurricanes score best on my list both with
pretty good 7's,The Brenda Lee here is not THE Brenda Lee of course but
an earlier songstress of the same name, who would ever choose The Debs
"Whadaya Want" over the Robins classic original? - and I really,REALLY
dislike that dreadful Four Lads thing (tho I DO like their "The Bus Stop
Song" tho Marty Robbins does it better still)

I agree , it's beyond uninspiring. However, in Bill's defense, not that
he needs me for that, often what comes out of the speakers invokes some personal , pleasant memory that makes a song a very fond memory in one's
life. Like a first dance, or a first kiss, or.... And if that memory is powerful and pleasant enough, it surely can become a favorite for that
reason. And I'm sure we all have songs/favorites that would fit in that category.

Rick Nelson, for one, also has a whiter than white voice.

Bruce is proudly shouting out that he has a rugged blue and black collar mindset...

    A comment or three......

Annisteen Allen (and The Cues) - Fujiyama Mama

I won't class this (or other items like it) as a vocal group record for
reasons already argued over. It's a single artist backed in this instance
by a vocal group record just like how Elvis in many of his records is
backed by a vocal group. They are NOT vocal group records per se IMO
since a vocal group is an integral self contained unit.

This is a 7 on my list and anyway Wanda does it better a little later

    Colts - Adorable

The original version and a 7 for me. The Drifters cover gets an 8

    Crew-Cuts - A Story Untold

Are you kidding? Dreadful cover of the Nutmegs classic

Freddie Bell & Bellboys - Hound Dog

Never liked this real weak combo and dislike this version greatly

Harptones - Life Is But A Dream

ABSOLUTE CLASSIC!! It's #2 on my 1955 group fave list that heads this
    thread

Hilltoppers - Only You (And You Alone)

Dull and dismal version compared to the Platters reading

    Keynotes - I Don't Know

A goodie! #188 on my list and an 8

    Leaders - Stormy Weather

Like this one just a 7. I'm not big on lyrics but the way the lead
mangles Harold Arlen with that "Don't know why Mama don't bake no apple
pie" line creases me up :)

Mindy Carson & Vocal Group - The Fish

Again NOT a vocal group record but definitely a real awful one

    Nutmegs - Ship Of Love

A classic!! #151 on my list and an 8

Okay, I guess it was the CD that messed it up.

The title is IMO a misprint, should be "Walk *Alone*" because that's >>>>> what they're singing throughout the song.

Put your hearing aids in, honey.

The chorus is walk along, sing your song, because it rhymes.

It's not walk alone. I hear walk along, every time they say it.

You know what?  It's the *other* way around.  The title says "Walk
Alone" but they're singing "Walk Along."
