Very enjoyable show today, although I imagine the fans of female

DianeE, why do you, in general, dislike female rockabilly songs and
    surf instrumentals?

I don't know why. They just rub me the wrong way.

Are *you* crazy? :) Only the following locations had subways in the
1950s: NYC, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Rochester, Cleveland,
Newark. In the 1950s, California did not have any subway systems.
Only 10-11% of the US population lived in these 7 cities, and not
every child would have used the subway.

And London of course which was the first ever underground rail system
on Earth and is today the third largest metro system in the world behind Shanghai and Beijing in China

"Written on the subway walls" was a Paul Simon reference, not meant to literally imply that it wasn't written anyplace else.

Graffitti in the 1950s and 60s was quite primitive compared to what it
has become today. I refer you to the closing pages of "The Catcher In
The Rye," published in 1951, where Holden speculates that after he dies,
some vandal is going to write "Fuck you" on his tombstone.
