The talented pianist saves an otherwise dullish repetitive recording
(a white version of black slaves vocalizing, in a depressed mood, in a
    cotton field or wherever).

    So, who is the pianist?

The text says this was a 1947 session at King Studios in Cincinnati.
    My old stompiing ground.
I will take a guess and say it's Moon Mullican.
He recorded for King around that time.
