No chance that Dean has an original 45 on this. It did come out on an
Imperial 45 as it was only on a 78 in 1950. in 1955, but that was a
reissue and it does not say Archie Bald. He must have some later reissue
or a bootleg when some dope transposed the name by sound rather than
    seeing what it should be.

The latest ROOTS ROCK RADIO is archived at the link below until January
5th. I nicknamed this week's show "The Vinyl Frontier" as all but one of tracks I played was off an original 45 RPM. (I normally use a laptop
    with DJ software.)

    Here's the playlist:

    1. HARD TIMES (The Slop), Noble “Thin Man” Watts

Terrific instrumental that even made it over to these shores (tho I
don't recall ever hearing it on radio here). Here's how it sits on my
    1957 instrumentals list

    1..Raunchy Bill Justis - 1957
    2. Hard Times (The Slop) Noble “Thin Man” Watts & Rhythm Sparks - 1957
    3. Leap Frog Chuck Alaimo Quartet - 1957
    4. Walkin’ With Mr Lee Lee Allen - 1957
    5. Raunchy Ernie Freeman - 1957
    6. Big Guitar Frank DeRosa & De-Men - 1957
    7. 7-11 Gone All Stars - 1957
    8. Dumplins Doc Bagby - 1957
    9. No Name Jive Earl Bostic - 1957
    10. Sail Along Silvery Moon Billy Vaughn – 1957

    3. LEROY, Jack Scott

Retread of the original "Greaseball" that I believe was Jack's very
first recording from a demo session in Detroit in 1957 before even the ABC-Paramount sides.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_748q79vLk

No idea who the sidemen are on this one but one may be upright bass
player Stan Getz who later played on many of the ABC and Carlton
records. Of course not to be confused with the different jazz
    "Desafinado" guy

BTW the above Jack Scott piece is dedicated to Diane who I know loves
    hearing and reading about him

    4. I’M IN LOVE AGAIN, Fats Domino

There's a TON of competition but this one is just about my favorite ever
    Fats performance on wax

    9. I’M STICKIN’ WITH YOU, Jimmy Bowen

One artist I never could stand. Nearly all his records sound uniformly
bland and watery to me. The only thing I like by him is "My Baby's Gone"
and that was wrongly attributed on the single to "Buddy Knox"

    11. THE WAY YOU DOG ME AROUND, The Diablos

If "The Wind" is their very best then this soulful piece is my pick for definite #2 best ever Diablos performance

    14. 7-11, The Gone All-Stars

Another great instrumental. Check entry #1 above to see where "7-11"
sits on my 1957 fave instrumentals list

    17. MANY TEARS AGO, Connie Francis

Just about the best record she ever made I'm thinking. Tho I do have a
special liking for "Lipstick On Your Collar" too---tho most of that
comes from the superlative guitar performance of Mr George Barnes

    19. WHO’S THAT KNOCKING, The Genies

Lead here is Roy C. Hammond who as simply "Roy C." recorded the splendid "Shotgun Wedding" back in 1965. Always amazed that this one didn't do
very much ín his native USA but was a HUGE hit here in the UK in 1966
thanks to monster play on the swashbuckling pirate radio ships back then

    20. SHAKE BABY SHAKE, Jesse Lee Turner

I can still vividly recall how and where I found my copy of this decent rocker--'twas in the early 70's at Henry Stone's warehouse in Hialeah
Florida where we found bulk on this one and hundreds of other good
titles. That one USA trip furnished us with enough material to open an
    oldies record store in London

    24. SEA OF LOVE, Phil Phillips with the Twilights

This is the locally produced version that took the #3 chart honors here

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MybVywFLA6I

    26. LET’S STOMP, Bobby Comstock

Here's one I was very fond of back in 1963 and still have a little soft
spot left for it now.If the pirate ships had been around a little
earlier they might well have pushed this one into the UK charts

    28. THE ALL AMERICAN BOY, Bill Parsons (Bobby Bare)

Its rare that I find something in these lists that I really don't like
but this is one of them. Never ever warmed to it,sorry

    36. LONELY BLUE BOY, Conway Twitty

Rewrite of "Danny" one of the songs intended for Elvis' "King Creole"
    movie
but that was dropped at the last minute. Here's Elvis' version :-

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VlB8Cxmk4k

    39. HANGIN’ AROUND, Ersel Hickey

I still remember a friend playing me a record he'd just bought and raved over--"Bluebirds Over The Mountain". I didn't like it back then and I
still don't like it now. Nor do I like the Ritchie Valens version I've
heard since nor the much later Beach Boys version.

But I'm pleased to report that when my pal flipped his record over I did
like the "Hangin' Around" flip. And I still do

    41. PINK PEDAL PUSHERS, Carl Perkins

One of his best on Columbia but even better in the earlier Sun
    recordings of the title

    42. IF YOU CAN’T ROCK ME, Ricky Nelson

ahem, four of the five members of this Dianesville doo-wop group
    are Italian-Americans :-)

we notice you selected a YT stereo version instead of a better,

There are a lot of British (and Irish) novelty records that fall flat on American ears due to the impenetrable accents and UK (or

The "accent" thing works both ways. Some US accents (and there are a
variety of different ones as you'd expect in any country the size of the
USA) are hard for folk on this side of the pond to understand

Okay,Bobby Bare's "Detroit City" is a definite step or two up from "The
All American Boy" but it 's still far from my favorite version of the
number. Jerry Lee's version is probably the best I know by a white
country singer whilst I always liked the versions by Arthur Alexander
and Joe Tex about equally in the r&b field.

BTW you probably know Bobby Bare doesn't have the original on the song
(tho he had the biggest hit). Billy "Gotta Travel On" Grammer had the
original (as "I Wanna Go Home") out five months before the Bare version

I thought you did not like Jazz, Mr. Ford. It's from an album called
"Hits Of The Swing Age." I guess it's more Swing than Jazz. Still, there
are some good R&B instrumentals in 1957 that I would think would beat
    it, like these below.

Rockin' With The Duke - Good Buddy (Lucas)
    Drivin' Home - Paul Gayten
The Big Wheel - Clifton Chenier
Rockin' Pneumonia (part 2) - Maybe you don't consider this an
    instrumental
    Quarter Party - Al Smith
Ram Bunk Shush - Bill Doggett
Johnny's House Party - Jimmy Beasley / Johnny Heartsman
    Purple Wail - Red Prysock
After School Rock - Pancho Villa

I don't rate Freeman's "Raunchy" that high. The Justis though is clearly
    the best instrumental of 1957.

How do you feel about the River Kwai?

When I first "met" Sampson (online) he only had one Diablos song, "The
Wind." I proceeded to email him like a dozen more on MP3. He loved this
and referred to them as the Baby Dominoes based on this record.

    17. MANY TEARS AGO, Connie Francis

Just about the best record she ever made I'm thinking.

You are thinking brilliantly! No doubt for me. Love this. Hippest thing
    she ever did by far.

Did not know it. You and Dean are right, it's good, a high 6. I also
