One of Sam Cooke’s very best singles on RCA (vocal assistance by Lou
    Rawls)- #13BBpop #2 BBr&b

    2. I NEED YOUR LOVING – DON GARDNER & DEE DEE FORD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3nh7dNIfx0

Great insistent r&b shouter from the duo on Bobby Robinson’s Fire label.
    #20 BBpop #4 BBr&b

    3. SLOW TWISTIN’ – CHUBBY CHECKER (DEE DEE SHARP) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTPN2jkIhKo

Chubby Checker favorite with another Dee Dee here helping out #3 on both
    BB charts plus #19 UK

    4. SHE’S ALRIGHT – SAM & DAVE
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3M0vCYVL2Zo

First genuine Roulette recording (earlier tracks by them on the label
were reissues of even earlier material)

    5. CHAINS – THE EVERLY BROTHERS (UNRELEASED) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ok9fto9sVho

First recording of the catchy Goffin-King song taken into the charts by
The Cookies. First released on 1984 UK “Nice Guys” LP

    6. YOU CAN’T HIDE – LULU (sic) REED & FREDDY KING https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFjAa27igtc

Best IMO of the several Lula & Freddy singles released on Federal in
    1962

    7. IT’S EASY CHILD – LULU (sic) REED & FREDDY KING https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSYCvSWyCc4

    Blues (flip of “Go Now”)

    8. NO-ONE CAN MAKE MY SUNSHINE SMILE – THE EVERLY BROTHERS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAaVD7ctTV4

    9. DON’T YOU WORRY – DON GARDNER & DEE DEE FORD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5D5DR3t8Cc

the very dire “Muskrat” but still well below par

    15. SWEET AND LOVELY – APRIL STEVENS & NINO TEMPO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSi2JAz4cm0

Competent revival on Atco of the old standard originally by Gus Arnheim

    This one works - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-AhZmpi0wA

I don't like it much though. It never gets anywhere.

    7. IT’S EASY CHILD – LULU (sic) REED & FREDDY KING https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSYCvSWyCc4

Excellent original version of the song later made famous by The Moody
    Blues (flip of “Go Now”)

Excellent? On what planet? Never heard of either version before. I don't
think the Moody Blues made it "famous," they just recorded it. When I
searched for it on Youtube by the Moody Blues it did not come up on its
own as I started to type the title, as famous songs do. I had to type
    the full thing.

    8. NO-ONE CAN MAKE MY SUNSHINE SMILE – THE EVERLY BROTHERS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAaVD7ctTV4

Methinks USA picked wrong “A” side on this release—a #9 hit in UK where it was the topside

Did not know it. I don't think it's anything special, but I am gonna
download it and keep an MP3. But not from the video you posted where you
see the 45. There's a better sounding one to get it from.

    13. CAN’T STAY AWAY FROM YOU – TARHEEL SLIM & LITTLE ANN https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYsob4vqRFU

Did not know it. It's reasonably good, will keep a copy.

    19. T.C.B. (TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS) – DON GARDNER & DEE DEE FORD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwnpvkHRoK8

Did not have it. As much as I love their first hit, this one is weak
    IMO.

    20. LOE & JOE – THAT’S HOW I AM WITHOUT YOU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnPsP7jjg4k

Did not know it, it's good. I'm not that strong on odd items from the
early 60s because I don't like them all that much. Nice touch with the Spinners. I downloaded it from a better sounding video than the one you
    used with the noisy 45.

    21. KITTY KAT – KENNY & DOOLITTLE

Can't deal with the goofy parts.

    22. THE ARGUMENT – IKE & TINA TURNER

Not big on this, I've got a 5.

    23. BARBARA ANN – JAN & DEAN

Was not aware of this one. It's not necessary for me to have it. I don't
see any release on this in 1962, is it unissued?

Not big on this, I've got a 5.
    -----------
You guys ignore lyrics, but the lyrics of this one send chills up my
spine as "Ike" (probably not really him) threatens Tina with bodily harm.

    Now *there* was a misogynist.

A fave record of Roger's and I'm pretty sure he would know the nature
of the lyrics of this particular song. In *this* instance, I don't
accept your "You guys ignore lyrics" defense.

I feel that it's very likely that Tina *is* singing with Ike because
of the way she often calls out in a spontaneous way "I-kee". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VPfbimcKOA

She calls him Ike and Ikie in several songs where another guy is doing
    the singing.

I think you have to come to terms with this sound thing. Again this must
have been the best sound I could find. Please remember that because you
see (hear?) a better copy it doesn't mean it shows up here. And of
course that works vice versa (as you found out with the Sam & Dave
above). Not every YT clip I post shows over there just as not every Cash
Box YT clip you post shows here (or sometimes I find a better one)

These are the perils of posting this stuff and living on different
    continents!!

Okay, I did not check any greatest hits albums, just regular releases
and they had no regular album in 1962.

the other voice on "The Argument" is in fact Ike Turner as billed.

There would be probably be some small changes if I did this again now as
I have added loads of things to my database since I did this. Especially
50s things from the Cash Box reviews. like #21 was 1950 at 259.5, but
that likely has pulled ahead of 1970 by now.

I think the point system I used to do this was 5 points for all records
that were rated 10, 3 pts for all 9's, 2 points for all 8's, 1 pt. for
all 7's, and half a point for all 6's.

    On my planet

I get off the boat on a lot of stuff from like 1961-63 that you and
others here love. Unlike you and some others here, I for one (and Steve)
would have been very happy about the influx of a "new sound" in those
days coming from the Beatles and others because the R&B stuff from then
had mostly gotten very watered down and overproduced IMO. You can trace
all that back to "There Goes My Baby" and a couple of other late 50s
hits where R&B was merging with pop. Violins, female choruses, more orchestration were all bad things as far as I am concerned.

Did not know it, it's good. I'm not that strong on odd items from the
early 60s because I don't like them all that much. Nice touch with the
Spinners. I downloaded it from a better sounding video than the one you
    used with the noisy 45.

So this one did not come up for you?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJOr7-f0AX0

Or was it seeing the 45 that got you to use the one you used? When I use youtube for music I really have almost zero interest in the video part.
To me it's only about the audio and which one sounds best.

Except for the few records who still sound like mid-50s records, I see 1959-1962 as FAR below the stuff from 1951 though 1958. Then in 1963 we
get Beatles and some other English stuff, and a bunch of Beach Boys
things, and a few other newer sounds. It continues to go up through
1964, and then we get what is easily the best year of the 60s, 1965. It
them slowly starts to descend again after that.

Years ago I ranked the years based on the ratings I had given for songs
from each year. These were my 20 favorite years for music:

    RANK - YEAR - RATING
    1 ---- 1956 - 1283.5
    2 ---- 1955 - 1204.0
    3 ---- 1957 - 1027.5
    4 ---- 1954 - 1004.5
    5 ---- 1958 -- 758.5
    6 ---- 1953 -- 749.5
    7 ---- 1965 -- 667.5
    8 ---- 1964 -- 589.0
    9 ---- 1952 -- 529.0
    10 --- 1966 -- 477.5
    11 --- 1960 -- 468.0
    12 --- 1967 -- 464.0
    13 --- 1959 -- 462.5
    14 --- 1961 -- 433.0
    15 --- 1969 -- 412.0
    16 --- 1963 -- 408.0
    17 --- 1951 -- 387.0
    18 --- 1968 -- 365.5
    19 --- 1962 -- 342.0
    20 --- 1970 -- 318.0

There would be probably be some small changes if I did this again now as
I have added loads of things to my database since I did this. Especially
50s things from the Cash Box reviews. like #21 was 1950 at 259.5, but
that likely has pulled ahead of 1970 by now.

Not big on this, I've got a 5.

You guys ignore lyrics, but the lyrics of this one send chills up my >>>>spine as "Ike" (probably not really him) threatens Tina with bodily harm. >>>>

If you have the time, Bruce, some more detailed proof please.

On "It's Gonna Work Out Fine" with Mickey Baker, she did not call
    out Ike or Ikie.

    Are you wacked or what?

In "It's Gonna Work Out Fine" she says "I wanna tell you something Ike"
and then starts the next line with "Ikey." Check here at about 27-28
    seconds in, stupid!

You're older than Granny now, you should be looking at her, not the
young girl who could be your great granddaughter.
