The same bad packaging and fake stereo is in the
new Karajan box as is in the Furtwangler box:

I checked the first Karajan hybrid SACD (first of 24) and
it is a 1953 and 1954 recordings in fake stereo. Mono
recordings do not change their sound when they are folded
from two channels into one, only stereo and fake recordings do.

Why muffle good tape sources with fake stereo? It also
is misleadingly described, the CD is listed in mono,
but it's not, it's fake stereo. Just like in the
Furtwangler box they do not disclose that the audio is
    degraded by fake stereo.

As for the packaging, what John Fowler says about the
Furtwangler box from the above link roughly applies here:

"The packaging is just plain dumb: It was designed by an "artist"
who was more concerned with superficial appearances than with
ease of use. Any librarian could have done a better job. The
184 page hardcover book has three informative essays (in German
and English) + many rare photographs. That part is good. What
it doesn't have is the basics: No program notes about the music
(some of which is quite obscure). No texts or translations for
the vocal works. The 22 SACDs are packaged in a fold-out box
without proper protection for the discs (and no recording dates
or track listings on the box). The table of contents does not
include recording dates either (you must turn to the fine print
on pages 9-37 to discover discographic information). It even
lacks an alphabetical index to composers and compositions."

128 page book, 24 hybrid SACDs.
