Institute for Justice helps plaintiff pursue civil asset forfeiture
recovery against Wayne County, Michigan: a man's property was seized but charges for the underlying crime were never filed. He's the named
plaintiff in a class action. By some weird coincidence, he was arrested
on trumped up charges the very next day. In two different preliminary
hearings, charges were dismissed for lack of evidence.
Turns out that a prosecutor filing false charges DOES NOT have qualified immunity.
