• Abraham Lincoln: Authoritarian Despot

From BTR1701@21:1/5 to All on Thu May 15 19:21:22 2025
The progs on CNN and MSNBC are having hysterical fits over the banners of
Trump that are going up on some government buildings in DC. They're saying
it's "an authoritarian vibe" and "Hitler-esque", and they're clutching their pearls so hard the damn things are turning to dust. A fainting couch had to be wheeled into the studio for Rachel Maddow.

Yeah, like that deeply fascist Lincoln Administration on the banner next to Trump's that we as a nation barely survived.

Maybe I don't understand, but it seems relevant that Lincoln's banner
didn't go up while he was in office (and threatening his term-limits).

What's relevant is that the USDA is celebrating a major anniversary and is hanging banners to commemorate its founding (by Lincoln) to the present.

Nothing sinister about it. If its anniversary had fallen last year, that'd be
a big picture of Biden's head hanging between the columns.

Oh, and there were no term limits on the presidency while Lincoln was in office.

I had to refresh my memory. The authorizing legislation for USDA passed
during Lincoln's presidency. I thought this was about the Civil War.

I have a friend who hates Lincoln with a passion for the loss of
American lives during the Civil War but he's never really explained how
there would have been political compromise ending slavery in peace.

So, the building shown is only *partly* bannered...

Instructive of WHAT? You're making even less sense than usual with your convoluted "reasoning"....

Instructive of the character contrast between the respective presidents.
