Why? If you're not at the controls you're a passenger. While I've
never flown except as a passenger, I've certainly both driven and been
driven on land and never felt diminished by being a passenger.

And I totally fail to see how one's gender affects that fact so why
the H is it "sexist and disrespectful to do so"?

I've been both to Cape Canaveral and the adjacent air force base which
is where the historical museum (sitting in the cap com's seat that
launched John Glenn was pretty cool) and reached just the opposite
    impression.

One of the key moments in my teens was when I realized I'd never make
the short list never mind the actual list strictly due to my
citizenship. (This was long before Mark Garneau and other Canucks who
    flew in the Shuttle)

Yes, but you aren't trying to deliver some sort of message with your
time as a passenger. While that was very much the message the celebs
were trying to deliver. It failed because they didn't actually do
anything. It might be very different if they had gone to the ISS and
actually did some work there. That would have helped sell the message
that women can do this (not that they would have been the first) that
    they apparently wanted to push.

As it was they delivered the message that women can be passengers.

Because they thought their trip was more important than it was. I
don't know how they convinced themselves that an all women passenger
flight was something special but they did. As I said above, maybe if
they had gone to the space station to do some work the message might
have worked but not with what they did.

I mean, truthfully, the craft could have been full of babies or
puppies and it would have been just as successful.

Why? Were you especially proficient with physics as a kid? Did you want
to become a aeronautics engineer or an Air Force test pilot? Could you
    defeat Dr. Smith's evil machinations?

You might have had another obstacle or two to overcome.

Basically, these female celebs are upset that no one took their ride as seriously as they did.
