    Hi denizens of Usenet rec.arts.sw.written,

Curiously enough I finished a book called
"Night Shift Dragons" by Rachel Aaron and advertised as
the Final DFZ volume but it ain't. Could not find the
price on this large 372 page paperback volume.
WWW.RachelAaron.net might tell me but I have enough in
the way of temptation to spend money on.

The series is about a young woman and her Adoptive Father
who happens to be a dragon. She finds him overly controlling
and is trying to escape his influence in the Detroit Free
Zone aka the DFZ which is also the name of the City's
Living Goddess. DFZ means what her name says.

By the way after a meteor strike the magic was returned
to the world and the lake Goddess Algoncoquin sic rose up
and struck the old human city of Detroit with a tidal wave
of the rubbish the city had disposed of over the centuries
in her waters. She was generally opposed to other Supernaturals
and especially dragons. The DFZ forced Her back into Lake Bed
and took over Detroit adding a layer high above the drowned City
and welcoming the Peacemaker, a very powerful Dragon and his
court includes many dragons(Scheming Snakes all).

Opal Yong ie is the daughter of the esteemed and very
powerful Dragon of Korea, called Fong. Fong has cultivated
humans for many thousands of years and Opal is the child of
his human lover. Fong's humans remain loyal to him. His sister
called "White Snake" did not and hoping to beat him in his
weakened condition, the result of a curse that he put on Opal,
which backfired and drained his strength. DFZ intervened to
    get the services of Opal.
White Snake, was severely damaged by the intervention
and captured by a Mortal Spirit running a fighting arena. Good
lesson for dragons everywhere, who curses others must be very
careful. Great Yong cursed Opal to have bad luck. The curse
eventually reduces him to dependence on Opal and the DFZ has
made Opal, Her priestess-in-training to improve her magical
    skills.

Then the action starts. When it over Great Fong will
happily return to Korea and Opal will promise to visit as a
    result.

Rachel Aaron writes very well and if I had not gotten the book
out of the library before I twisted my ankle I would have finished
it sooner. Because it had been so long since I started the book I
looked at the first few pages again and had read 50 pages before
I stopped. So I think that Night Shift Dragons is pretty good.

    bliss - a real hobbler

There are three series (so far at least) in the DFZ setting.

The first is about the Peacemaker, as you mention: The nice dragon.

    Opal's is the second.

The story of the Fairy Changeling Lola is the third.
