He deserves to be fired, but I don’t want him to be fired because he
screwed up Star Trek so badly it can’t be saved and I don’t want him to hurt another property. He’s in theory attached to Larry Niven RINGWORLD,
and if they deservedly kick him off Trek he’ll actually have room to spoil that.

Accpording to the rumor, whoever hired Kurtzman hated Star Trek and set conditions that Kurtzman cannot be fired and it's cheaper to produce
additional seasons of trek shows than to cancel them.

Two other examples franchise ruining idiocy are
    - the black Hermione in the Harry Potter stage show, and the awful

of Harry Potter remains to be seen.

The horror! A cartoon put on film being ruined! Indiana Jones (the

I wouldn't believe that except I know for a fact there were equally
bizarre conditions surrounding Berman and Braga and their running
    of the Star Trek franchise.

They seem to be morons running every franchise these days, many of them
destroying their franchises with Politically Correctness idiocy and
quota-filling. :-( Kathleen Kennedy with Star Wars

Kennedy also tried her best to ruin Indiana Jones, too.

She put a chick in it and made her gay.

Just be thankful that Indiana Jones was re-cast as a black woman with a >missing arm ... I wouldn't be at all surprised if Kennedy actually
    suggested doing that.

Two other examples franchise ruining idiocy are
    - the black Hermione in the Harry Potter stage show, and the awful
"diversity" garbage they're going to force into the TV show remake
of Harry Potter remains to be seen.

Are they allowed to do that? You know they're going to put in at least one tranny to "stick it to" JK Rowling.

    - the female Penguin villain in the new animated Batman.

Ugh, that was painful to watch.

The diversity they shoved into the new Percy Jackson series kept me from watching more than the pilot.

    It's Hollywood law now.

I watched the new 'SALEM'S LOT last night and sure enough two of the
main characters were race-swapped and one of them was also
    gender-swapped.

Percy Jackson, of course, had impossible, casting since the original female lead was hi ho. But they failed spectacularly.

As I understand it, whoever was in charge at the time hated Trek and agreed

Paramount has been known to make deals this stupid. For instance, Berman
and Braga had deals where they couldn’t be fired as long as Star Trek was
in production so they had to cancel Enterprise and other things. (rumor
says that included the Las Vegas experience) and have no Star Trek in production for a while until the terms of the deal were met and they could
fire Berman and Braga and start up again to make the JJ movies. Otherwise, Berman and Greg would’ve been in charge of those and they wanted rid of
    them bad.

    It depends on various things.

For example, if the cast and crew were contracted for three years, but
the show should be cancelled after two, then it can potentially work
out more expensive to pay off all the contract cancellations than to
simply make the show for another year.

Then there can be other things such as syndication contracts with other broadcasters, where the makers are signed up to make three years of
episodes and breaking that contract can again be expensive.
