What made the '97 one special was Verhoeven's DNA ...any hint of which
we are promised this new one will take great pains to jettison.
Or they could try actually adapting the book...
Based on the original 1959 book rather than a "remake" of the 1997 movie.

A new Starship Troopers movie is in the works.
The original Starship Troopers, based on the 1959 novel by
Robert A. Heinlein, was released in 1997. Directed by Paul
Verhoeven, the satirical sci-fi movie stars Casper Van Dien
as Johnny Rico, Dina Meyer as Dizzy Flores, Denise Richards
as Carmen Ibanez, Jake Busey as Ace Levy, Neil Patrick Harris
as Carl Jenkins, and Clancy Brown as Sergeant Zim.

Neill Blomkamp is now set to write and direct a new Starship
Troopers movie, per The Hollywood Reporter, for Columbia
Pictures.
What do we know about the new Starship Troopers movie from
Neill Blomkamp?
Blomkamp's movie won't be a direct remake of the Verhoeven film;
rather, The Hollywood Reporter reports that "the goal is to go
back to the source material."
Further plot details remain under wraps at this time. Blomkamp
will also serve as a producer on the film alongside his wife,
Terri Tatchell.
Blomkamp made his feature film directorial debut in 2009 with
District 9, which received four Academy Award nominations,
including Best Picture. He followed that up with 2013's Elysium
and 2015's Chappie before making Demonic in 2021.
His most recent movie was 2023's Gran Turismo, which is based on
the racing video game series developed by Polyphony Digital. He
was also working on an Alien movie for a time that was shelved
and ultimately canceled after Ridley Scott decided to make 2017's
Alien: Covenant.
A release date for the new Starship Troopers movie has not yet
been announced.
The original Starship Troopers, meanwhile, is currently available
to stream on Amazon Prime Video. That movie was followed by two
direct-to-video sequels: 2004's Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the
Federation and 2008's Starship Troopers 3: Marauder. There have
also been two animated movies, 2012's Starship Troopers: Invasion
and 2017's Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars, and other related
media, such as television shows, video games, and more.

For some meaning of "satirical" unknown to me.
Many Verhoeven films are worth not only seeing but owning on DVD.
Some, like this one and /Katje Tippel/, may be worth seeing, but, once
seen, need never be seen again.
Others, whose very names I do not recall, are very bad indeed.

For certain definitions of the word "special".
I hope all traces of Verhoeven's slander of Heinlein are jettisoned, preferably into a black hole.

Verhoeven wasn't hired to make a Heinlein tribute. And, no, this new
effort certainly shouldn't try to copy what he DID make...
