Four more years (at least) of these badly animated, completely unfunny,
drivel clogging up the world's TV schedules. :-(
'The Simpsons,' 'Family Guy,' 'Bob's Burgers'
Renewed for Four More Seasons,
'American Dad' Officially Returning to Fox
---------------------------------------------
"The Simpsons," "Family Guy," and "Bob's Burgers" have locked in
massive four-season renewals at Fox, Variety has learned. In
addition, "American Dad" is officially returning to Fox,
likewise with a four-season renewal.
It was previously reported in March that "American Dad" was
nearing a deal to return to Fox, the network that originally
launched the show in 2005. It has been airing on TBS since 2014.
Linear reruns of "American Dad!" will continue to air on TBS and
fellow Warner Bros. Discovery networks Adult Swim and TruTV until
at least 2030.
"This new deal celebrates the eternal popularity of these iconic
comedies, as well as the enduring, prolific relationship we
continue to enjoy with our friends at 20th Television Animation
and the brilliant creators - that goes double for Seth this time
around - and incredible voices behind these contemporary
classics," said Michael Thorn, president of Fox Television
Network.
The renewals will take "Bob's Burgers" from Seasons 16-19, "Family
Guy" to Seasons 24-27, "American Dad" to Seasons 20-23, and the
record-setting 37th through 40th Seasons of "The Simpsons."
"The longevity of this agreement reaffirms our commitment to the
successful partnership we've built with the incredible team at
Disney," said Rob Wade, CEO of Fox Entertainment. "This
collaboration has and will continue to generate meaningful
long-term value and strategically build audiences from Fox to
Hulu to fans worldwide."
While Fox has given out multi-season commitments in the past, the
unprecedented size of the order grants a strong measure of
consistency for both Fox, the longtime leader in broadcast
animation, and studio 20th Television Animation. Locking in 16
total seasons of television in the current Hollywood marketplace
is no small feat, and the cornerstones of Fox's "Animation
Domination" lineup now remain in place through the 2028-2029
broadcast season.
Disney+ and Hulu remain the exclusive global streaming home for
all four animated series, which collectively have over 2000
episodes. In 2024, "Family Guy" and "Bob's Burgers" were among the
two most-streamed titles on the Nielsen Top 10 charts, pulling in
42.44 billion and 36.79 billion minutes viewed, respectively.
"This historic four-season order from our longtime partners at Fox
is truly monumental for these iconic animated series," said Marci
Proietto, head of 20th Television Animation. "We are so proud that
these legendary shows will continue for hundreds of more episodes,
allowing new and longstanding fans to watch, rewatch and experience
more of 'The Simpsons,' 'Family Guy,' 'American Dad' and 'Bob's
Burgers' for years to come."
Fox's other animated series include: "Universal Basic Guys," which
has already been renewed for Season 2; "Krapopolis," which has been
renewed through Season 4; and both "Grimsburg" and "The Great
North," which are awaiting word on new seasons.
"The Simpsons" is a Gracie Films Production in association with
20th Television Animation from creator Matt Groening, developed by
James L. Brooks, Groening and Sam Simon and executive produced by
Brooks, Groening and showrunner Matt Selman. Seth MacFarlane is
creator and executive producer of "Family Guy" with Rich Appel and
Alec Sulkin serving as executive producers and showrunners. "Bob's
Burgers" was created and is executive produced by Loren Bouchard
with Nora Smith and Holly Schlesinger serving as executive producers
and showrunners.
