The days are early for my new bbs. Learning the ropes of being a sysop, considering my ansi screens, the tools I'll employ, the echonets to
subscribe to, and it's overall theme.
One thing, though, that was top priority on the system is utilizing APIs around various sources on the net to use my system as a portal for information.
First priority was aviation tools. So I have my Airman Information
Toolbox
Currently, the only things I have setup are Airport Informatino, METAR, PIREP, TAFs, Domesic AIRMET/SIGMET.
There's tons more to add, but it's all working. I still need to add a disclaimer about how these are only for information and not to expect to
rely on it purely for flight planning.
I'm going to employ an airman query, n-number lookup, and all sorts of
other goodies as I discover them.
Thought I'd tell the community here, in case you're curious. If you
don't know what a BBS is, they used to be systems you'd dial into back
in teh modem days and before ISP's proliferated. AOL started as a
multi-line BBS.
They don't provide any graphics, it's all text mode with connectivity
now via telnet or ssh. Terminals must have, minimum, utf8 fonts on their consoles and ideally cp437 to render the characters properly.
If yuod like to take a look, create an account on my board and have
fun. Once I see you're on, I'll authenticate you as a real user and the
tools will be available as option 1 The portal on the main menu.
Let me know if there's anything you can recommend in terms of aviation content. I do intend to fold in the eCFR changes to title 14 on my board annoucements and find a way to archive them easily for my users to poll.
I do intend on doing some api work to query ecfr.gov to search and
display parts, but may need to scrape the site since the api's are total shit.
address: bbs.airandwave.net
ssh/telnet: 2323/2222
On user prompt, type new and go from there.
Be kind, it's still a young board and dont' even have the echonets setup
yet. That is in progress.
Keep in mind there is no web interface.
Thanks
D

Daniel,
I created an account on your BBS. It's interesting. Is it written in shell-script? Is there a way to change the color scheme? I find dark blue on black difficult to read due to lack of contrast. I'm using Windows CMD.COM.
An old friend, Sandy Zelkovitz, wrote XBBS (Unix) back in the '80s. The source can be found on-line if you have any interest. https://packetstorm.news/files/id/28034/
I look forward to more visits.
Best regards,
Larry
