The Oregon DMV acknowledged Wednesday that it only realized it had
mistakenly helped register more than 300 non-citizens to vote after a
national think tank asked about the department’s processes and guardrails.
State officials told reporters last week that a recent “internal audit”
at the Oregon Driver and Motor Vehicles division revealed that the state
had registered 306 non-citizens to vote since 2021, based on human error
by DMV workers.
