Hezbollah and Lebanon have both blamed Israel for the attack, which
injured about 2,8000 people and killed at least nine people, according
to the Lebanese health minister. The Israel Defense Forces did not
    comment.

Pager explosions are a significant escalation as hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel simmer

But Tuesday’s exploding pagers attack represents a level of escalation
that is perhaps even greater than the assassination of Fu’ad Shukr,
the senior Hezbollah commander killed by an Israeli airstrike on a
    Beirut suburb in lateJuly.

Although Israel is refusing to comment on the explosions, Hezbollah
has said it holds Israel “fully responsible for this criminal attack.” The Lebanese government has also blamed Israel for the attack.

The simultaneous explosion of hundreds of pagers across Lebanon
represents a physical and symbolic hit on Hezbollah that was landed, presumably, by Israel.

In fact, this is just the latest in a series of blows to the militant
group. After the assassination of Shukr, Hezbollah waited nearly four
weeks to launch its response, firing some 300 rockets and drones at
Israel in retaliation, the majority of which were shot down by Israeli
    air defenses.

Now, perhaps thousands of Hezbollah militants have been injured in the
pager explosions—a major blow to the Iranian-backed group. The
explosions underscore Hezbollah’s profound vulnerability to Israeli infiltration of its intelligence and communications networks.

"Diplomatic and security sources speculated that the explosions could
have been caused by the devices' batteries detonating, possibly
    through overheating."

“I don't think this is a hack. Making batteries do anything more than
burn is very hard and implausible. Far more plausible is that somebody
bribed the factory to insert explosives” said Robert Graham, a

Whatever it was, it sure is funny.

The Islamic world has many factions that are turning more anti-west.
One reason for them slipping behind the West economically is their
religion was very slow to pick up on modern technology - especially the printing press. Hmmmm, will this cause some to become more wary
of cell phone etc. technology than they are already?

"The Israeli spy agency Mossad allegedly intercepted Hezbollah’s
shipment of new pagers months ago and rigged them with high explosives — resulting in the stunning attack on the Lebanese terror group Tuesday, according to a new report.

Mossad agents reportedly placed Pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), a
highly explosive material, inside the batteries of the pagers, sources
told Sky News Arabia, according to a translation from the Times of Israel."

"Phones are particularly appealing because they can be used to keep tabs on the targets in the weeks or months leading up to the attacks before transforming into bombs at the critical moment. “Hezbollah and all the other
terrorists know that if you are holding a cellular phone, it's very easy to locate you by GPS,” Assa says."

The idea is old. When the Germans were retreating in Italy during WW2 they left a working radio set tuned to their frequency with its headphones booby-trapped with explosives.

Allied agents planted explosive devices under German train cars that were triggered by the sudden darkness of entering a tunnel. The label said it was a monitoring device, strictly forbidden to disturb.

Stuxnet caused Iranian Uranium enrichment centrifuges to overspeed and self-destruct.

Except for the destruction this isn't much different from the deception magicians practice.

So you think killing or blowing the limbs off children is funny?
