    Hello,
MacCafe has been updated to version 3.02.1.
This version fixes a serious bug in v.3.02 which could make the Edit
menu unusable in certain circumstances. It also includes another bug fix
and some improvements. See the updated documentation for the full list
of changes (you may need to refresh the web page): ><http://yakakwatik.org/mc/documentation/en/tarrazu/>
To download the new version, please follow the link in my signature. To >install this version, simply replace the old MacCafe.app with the new
    one.
    Thank you for reading!

haven't used a mac since the 1990s, but 40Tude Dialog is still the
    best freeware newsreader (v2.0.15.1, 4d2b38.exe, 3.8 MB, 2005-2-7),
notably listed first in this extensive list of popular newsreaders:

First download version 2.0.15.1 and install it.
Then download version 2.0.15.84 (link under the description). The ZIP obtained
contains only the updated EXE file, which must be pasted into the installation
    folder, replacing the old one.
Also note the existence of this archive: >https://web.archive.org/web/20171225155526/http://dialog.datalist.org/index.html

There you will find (functional) download links, a FAQ and above all a copious >list of scripts allowing you to add features to 40Tude Dialog.
    Attention
Some of these scripts may not work, and some need an additional library, available at the bottom of the Downloads page.

(still using 2.0.15.1, works great! upgrades to 2.0.15.84 proved problematic)

Thanks for reminding me of a web page I wrote. ;-)

Yes, 40Tude Dialog is a highly recommendable newsreader. But it runs on Windows, while MacCafé is specifically designed for macOS.

yes, and for mac users, that's fine; whereas for windows users, it seems
that the current most popular newsreader, thunderbird (betterbird, etc.)
is problematic in ways that the far older classic 40tude dialog does not
have any problems with . . . other newsgroups have discussed issues with thunderbird at length, e.g. difficulties with scoring, dns prefetch, etc. dialog is far easier to install, use and maintain compared to any others

I will mention it on my page. Thanks for the information!

I'm not familiar with MacPorts, I should try it when I have time.

There used to be a Windows build but I can't find it now.

    I found this:

I tested Pan on Windows a few years ago and found it very unstable. That
said, Pan also doesn't work very well on my laptop running Ubuntu. I
think this newsreader doesn't like me. ;-)

    YMMV. IMHO.

for reading newsgroups, the freeware 40tude dialog is unbeatable; but
for posting, i'm still using this old free agent (version 1.93/32.576
because of its simplicity, portability, familiarity, useability, etc.)
