Usenet For Mobile - Accessing Newsgroups from Usenet is quite easy on mobile >devices. In fact, no 3rd part software needed! Just Easynews Usenet Provider. >Mobile Usenet Apps
Easynews has mobile support Now you can get all your newsgroups through Easynews
on an iPhone, Ipod Touch, and other platforms.
UsenetServer Mobile VPN App
UsenetServer Mobile VPN will now be available on mobile for users running iOS or
Android. The mobile version of the app is designed to fully mirror the desktop >version, giving it the same functionality and general set up. Much like the >UsenetServer desktop app, you will be able to set your connection preference and
visible location, and view your public IP address, current visible location, and
protocol option.
In this blog, you will learn how you can do it.
From your browser, you can navigate to different Usenet indices and search for >NZB file you want. Then you should download the NZB file you need to your >device. After this, you can launch the NZB downloading app. You will find some >that work very well. Unfortunately, you will not find all such apps from Google
Play Store or Apple Store. You will have to look for it from other websites. The
next step is to enter their Usenet server details into the app.
From your app, you can then load the NZB file, which you had saved earlier. Your
app will start downloading content and save it to your download folder. A good >app should do all unarchiving for you.
Usenet mobile applications
The mobile internet access should not be ignored anymore. You should note that >Usenet is now available on mobile applications. This explains why there are many
Usenet mobile apps available. Moreover, some versions for popular devices do >exist. The fact is that most mobile devices are not fast enough to handle >advanced textual newsgroups. Thus, some users will find such limitation quite >frustrating.
The following are some of the top Usenet mobile apps.
NZB Mobile
This is the UZB Usenet client designed for Pocket PC and Windows Mobile devices.

NewsTap
This is one of the powerful Usenet newsreaders for iPod Touch and iPhone. >Alexander Clauss created it. It is compatible with iPod touch, iPhone, and >requires at least iOS 3.0 or later. However, this app is also not free. >PhoNews
This is a unique newsreader for the Usenet news, and it is made for the iPhone >as well. It supports several newsgroups and servers at the same time. Its >software is compatible with iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad. Moreover, it requires
iOS 4.0 or later. The good thing about this application is that it is free. >Mews
This is an NNTP/Usenet client for the Windows mobile devices. It has an >intuitive interface, which allows users to download and read articles from any >particular public NNTP host. Some of the top features it has include:
Offline reader: This means that you do not require an internet connection to >read articles. Also, you can download articles using any internet connection. It
also fully supports attachments and can Open any form of file type. This is >inclusive of those that are handled through third party programs.
Just like anything now, Usenet is now Mobile. Depending on the type of smart >device you are using. Unlike in the past when functionality was much limited, >nowadays, you can enjoy fully functionality using your mobile device. Usenet.com

Comments on PhoNews Newsgroup Reader for Android
***** The interface is mostly very straight forward and useful. Took me a bit >to figure out how to unsubscribe (slide right in the subscribed group list). It
is a major pain though that the list of all groups has no hierarchy whatsoever.
It's just plain miles long list and finding anything there by scrolling is >virtually impossible. The search helps a bit but doesn't solve this problem >completely.
***** Awesome Works perfectly uses only built-in GUI elements, so it integrates
well! Five stars!
***** This is the best Usenet reader for Android I've come across so far. It >has threaded message views and the reply function works fine. It doesn't do >pictures very well at all. A way to blacklist people would be great. Overall, >pretty good!
***** Excellent app Simple and usable. It would be nice support for other char >encodings
***** Good newsreader but... I like it for the most part. A few little tweeks >would get more stars from me. A reading pane along with the thread pane, keeping
the entire thread together - not breaking into a new thread with the same topic
for same level replies.
** Nice Interface, Slow Took 5 min to load the group list, and only got to the >Bs. Maybe should be search only.
** Nice and simple to configure and use, but struggles to cope when a topic has
numerous deeply nested threads. Taken a couple of stars off due to the >frustration experienced when it loses server connection, then downloads multiple
copies of the same messages, making navigation impossible. The only workaround >is to delete and resubscribe to all groups.
I used a Usenet newsreader on my android and gave up a long while ago.
I'm having another try and find Phonews very good, except I cannot post
from the free version. Are there any better options now?

if you're open to textual readers (eg. slrn) you can run a newsreader in >>> a term app for android. with modern large screens that's an option, and
you'd have a fully functional software.
Adding value (I hope) to that slrn/tin/rn suggestion, is that Android has
always been able to run any Linux distribution (including desktops).
This is all for free. And the Android phone does not need to be rooted.
Once you have the 'nix you like on your Android, all the magic comes over. >> <https://andronix.app/>
If the OP does go for a nix-related newsreader on Android, all I ask is
that the OP let us know what works as we all keep tabs on this stuff but
not everyone can test every newsreader out there (as I had, long ago).
Termux it's easier and it's at F-Droid.
Also, giving how implementing NNTP it's easier than email at least,
IDK how they didn't adapt a client for Android since long ago.

The summary, for anyone reading this long convoluted thread, appears to be:
From Dave Royal
Ignore everything before M16.
Where the description of M16 OC appears to be this, also from Dave Royal.
This [Mod16] solves the main problem with
the PiaoHong newsreader - screwed-up quoting. Also the
less-obvious design fault that it ignored replies if it didn't
have the replied-to post. It also reports x-posts, which is
important IMO.
The location of that M16 with original colors is this link from Alfie.

Where the description of M16 MC appears to be this, also from Dave Royal.
The OC (original colours) version of M16 works adequately - not
perfectly - for me on an Android 13 tablet, and better than the
paid-for (VIP) version which I used for years. The colour version
is preferred by some on the Italian newsgroup - for phones I
think.
The location of that M16 with modified colors is this link from Alfie.

The description of how M17 differs from M16 by Dave Royal is this.
If you prefer the old behaviour whereby replies to missing
replied-to posts are ignored - which can lead to multiple threads
starting Re: and doesn't play well with filtering - then you can
revert that in M17. Also if you want to use odd headers, like
x-face. I haven't used M17.
I'm updating this thread so that Dave doesn't have to, given he said:
I will report on any future changes in the earlier thread I
referred to in news.software.readers.
