Not a suggestion, but a question:

Why aren't you also asking on comp.mobile.android?

I'm not subscribed to that group. I wouldn't understand how to fix

Is that good enough for you?

Buy an Android-phone. Almost nobody needs or uses RCS.

No. You avoid the obvious: Her phone is misconfigured and you try to
bash Apple for the lack of knowledge on your side.

    Hi badgolferman,

I'd like to help you out but I'm hindered by having never used RCS (since
it does nothing useful to me) but maybe I can run an RCS test for you?

I have a variety of iPads and an iPhone 6 (but no SIM card) in front of me.
Of course my daily drive is the free T-Mobile Galaxy A32-5G which has the
the last known good version of PulseSMS set up as my default messenger app.

PulseSMS doesn't support RCS but I could probably load any non-Google
messenger app that has RCS support (they should start existing soon).

Do you know if it's possible for me to test your scenario with those tools? How?

Looking up my old thread from a year ago asking for non-Google RCS apps
it seems there may be non-Google RCS apps for me to test with iOS for you.
    <https://xdaforums.com/t/apps-what-rich-communication-services-enabled-sms-mms-rcs-text-messaging-apps-do-you-know-of-for-android.4642422/>

Let me know if you can think of a test I can do for you. I also have family members with the latest iPhone 16 (yes, I still buy Apple products) whom I
can ask also to send me messages - but they're busy with life & kids too.

Let me know if there's a test you can propose that I can do for you.

The mere fact that you are offering to be of assistance is greatly
appreciated, but at this point I have given up since I'm quite sure the
problem is with the other user's phone and there's nothing I can change
on my end to work around it. Your act of kindness is appreciated by
me, but I'm sure not at all by several others on this newsgroup.

My understanding is that RCS requires the carrier to enable it. Ask your
friend to see if it has been.

The issue is my phone seems to think RCS is enabled for this user. The Messages field where I enter text shows RCS but as soon as I hit Send it fails. Then it gives me the option to resend as SMS. That works, but it forces me to send the message twice each time. The other person has no problem sending me a message and gets no errors.

Of course Alan thinks I’m lying about this whole thing and making it up.

    Wow.
