Where and when does this happen?

It would depend on what you're doing to cause that to happen, but it's
unlikely Android has some magic authentication message for whatever
you're doing either. For example, accidentally selecting all the test
and replacing it with a space will not give you a warning message on
    any computer system.

You could possibly try the Undo feature to undo whatever you've just
done, but again it depends on wht you did.

Even this message I had to write again after the first one disappeared when
I had to put it into background till I looked up something in a browser
    before Send.
It also happened several times when I was writing inside an app to share my opinion about the app.

I wasn’t talking about authentication, but confirmation, such as “Do you want to exit without saving your text?”, or something similar. I also know about what happens when I select the entire text before typing a character again. Android works the same way with that one. In cases I mentioned was
    no Undo option, BTW.

    What phone do you have?

I've seen this before and I think it's due to the app being removed from active memory - or whatever it's called - by apps you open with it in the background. The paused app only saves some aspects which may not include draft text. This a feature of the app, not the OS.

In the NewsTap newsreader I use, it saves draft messages. Reddit on the otherhand doesn't so I sometimes lose draft messages

Like YourName says I doubt android has built-in a way to avoid this.

I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max.

You say irretrievably, but have you tried shaking the device to undo
    once the text vanishes?
