I just tried it on the Android Google Maps app and it doesn't work.

Neither does it work with the Ungoogled Chromium maps link I tried.

Offhand, can Apple Maps push and shove a route to change it at will?

Not that I can see. Pushing just moves the entire map around.

Apple Maps will suggest alternate routes if that makes sense, and you
can tap to select among them, but it doesn't allow you to arbitrarily
change the route the way Google Maps does (on the web at least).

However, if you need to pass through a specific point, you can always
add a stop at that location.

Thanks. I thought it might have been due to my setup, but I guess not.
Much appreciated the kind help and advice.
