On my iPhone I primarily use Gmail app to read and manage my two Gmail accounts. Sometimes I use the Apple Mail app.
On the Gmail app I’ve set up the swipe left option to delete a message. However on the Apple Mail app there is no Delete option for swiping left or right. There’s also no Delete button on the toolbar! I must click the three little dots to finally find the Trash message option.
Why is this and how do I expand the swipe options to allow a delete action?

I'm sorry, but there most certainly is a swipe option to delete.

Are you swiping the message itself or subject header in the inbox? At least >> in my app, selecting the subject header in the inbox and swiping left shows >> a delete option.
The header in the inbox. Do you have a Gmail account?
Did you look at the screenshots in postimg? It clearly shows I don’t have a delete option. And neither does the bottom toolbar within the message
itself.

Ah, finally.
Your issue is that there is a choice to be made for each email account
to either trash or archive emails when you swipe to "delete" them.
Go to Settings:Mail:Acccounts:<account involved>:Account:Advanced
Once there, change the option for "MOVE DISCARDED MESSAGES INTO:" from
"Archive Mailbox" to "Deleted Mailbox"
Your instructions finally game me a Delete option when swiping left and on the toolbar. They made that really difficult to find. It didn’t have to be that complicated.
Thank you.

You seem to be confused as to the purpose of these newsgroups. We are
here to help each other and find solutions to problems. It's not to
argue with people and call each other names constantly.
I had an issue with my Mail app so I asked a question of the group.
Some people tried to help but didn't know the answer. You took the
extra step and researched it and provided the solution. I expressed my gratitude for your help. You then mocked me for not researching it
myself. Is this the way you help other people too?

Thank you.
You're welcome, but it seems what you wanted more than a solution was

The...

TBF it is rather buried and it's odd that different mail accounts have different default behaviours. I have gmail and non-gmail accounts with only the latter defaulting to delete.

On my iPhone I primarily use Gmail app to read and manage my two Gmail
accounts. Sometimes I use the Apple Mail app.
On the Gmail app I’ve set up the swipe left option to delete a message.
However on the Apple Mail app there is no Delete option for swiping left or
right. There’s also no Delete button on the toolbar! I must click the three
little dots to finally find the Trash message option. >>>>>>>>>>>>>
Why is this and how do I expand the swipe options to allow a delete action?
I'm sorry, but there most certainly is a swipe option to delete. >>>>>>>>>>>>

Those links opened up on my phone, it they don’t open up on my desktop
browser. Here’s another link to a different photo hosting site. Notice
there is no Delete option.

Are you swiping the message itself or subject header in the inbox? At least
in my app, selecting the subject header in the inbox and swiping left shows
a delete option.
The header in the inbox. Do you have a Gmail account?
Did you look at the screenshots in postimg? It clearly shows I don’t have a
delete option. And neither does the bottom toolbar within the message >>>>>>>> itself.
Here’s a picture of the toolbar:

Ah, finally.

Oh, I agree it's buried.
But it is inherently dishonest to come to a group looking for answers
when the actually answer was so easily found.
What's a newsgroup for, then? You may not google (for the correct thing) if you don't know there's a solution. The human experience is usually better when you're not exactly sure if there is a problem or what it may be.

It’s hard to communicate with unreasonable people. They have an attitude that others should be just like them.

What was unreasonable?
You had a problem, when I found a solution, I provided it.
You then proceeded to find something new to whine about.
I thanked you for your help then commented that the option was hidden
several menu levels below. You just looked for a reason to besmirch my character again... just as you're doing now.
