iPhone carriers will want to make sure they have the latest iOS 18.4
update in order to access several new emojis that were released this
    week.

The fun new graphics include an exhausted face with bags under its
eyes, a blue fingerprint and purple splatter, according to a social
media post shared Monday, March 31, by Apple Hub.

The new release also includes a shovel, a tree without leaves, a harp,
what appears to be a single radish and the flag of Sark, which is a self-governing island in the Channel Islands.

Thanks for that insightful update as it tells us a lot about Apple.

I saw that news yesterday, or maybe the day before. I laughed.
It's no longer amazing what Apple customers tremendously care about.

    Pity.

I was not going to update my iPhone but the shovel emoji is just so
incredibly awesome that I'm installing the update right now! Looking
forward to using those new emojis.

You're being trolled. There's more to 18.4 than the emojis, which I also
find ridiculous. If only for the security updates it's a worthwhile update.

Did you update? I did. Guess what Apple themselves said was great about it?

You’re right. Too bad we can’t use the shovel emoji on these newsgroups to
    bury someone.

I use filters on the newsgroups instead of a shovel!

BTW, I also updated my old 6s Plus but it can't get iOS 18.4
unfortunately. Oddly, the 6s Plus is at 96% battery while my 11 is at
88%. I just ordered a free SIM card from Helium for the 6s Plus, even
though T-Mobile coverage in my area is marginal.

Probably will get an iPhone 17 if the standard model includes a 120Hz
ProMotion display. But now it depends on the pricing and if Apple
absorbs the tariffs by lowering their margins, or if they try to raise
prices to keep the margins the same.

    Old John.

Here's another underwhelming (and over-hyped) announcement for you.

Here in New Zealand, the PB Tech company, one of the Apple Authroised Resellers, sent out an email yesterday saying:

"Looking for amazing Apple products at unbeatable prices?
It’s time for the Apple Deal Weekend at PB Tech!

Don't miss out on this amazing deal – shop now and save!"

but when you go to their website you find the so-called "amazing"
"savings" are actually incredibly pitiful. You get a measley NZ$20 off
    a NZ$2000 iPhone, or NZ$50 off a NZ$4000 MacBook Pro, or NZ$9 off a
    NZ$400 iPad. :-\
(For comparison, a branded 500g block of butter costs nearly NZ$10.)

If you can't read past the first six words, that's your problem. Not mine.

    Hi Chris,

You and I may be stupid - but Apple marketing is NOT stupid.
Apple has the best marketing in the world.

They know their customer better than we know ourselves.
Marketing decided what people cared about to talk about in the release.

By putting it first, Marketing told the entire world what they know their
own customers essentially care about most, and it's only three words.

    *8 new emojis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*

BTW, you can tell Apple marketing knows their customer base is stupid by
the way Apple marketing markets (rather successfully) to that base.
