These batteries are NOT safe. The little ones are
scary enough, but big EV+ sized ones are a disaster.
I laugh every time I see someone toss their flaming iphone.
Never saw that (yet) - but I DID have a LiPo batt that
had been sitting quietly on a table for like six+ months
suddenly go up in flames when I just barely brushed
the damned thing. It had barely been used, not like it
was worn out or abused or anything.
Millions of little hand-grenades spread all over the
country, just WAITING .....
They keep PROMISING new tech - sodium or even aluminum
systems instead, solid-solute electrolytes, explosion
reducing membranes/coatings - but they never make it off
the lab bench. Can't be scaled up for affordable industrial
production. NOT good.
Just because people WANT something does not mean physics
and chemistry can ACTUALLY deliver. LiPo may really be
about as good as it gets for 'small devices'.
