    Whether you access the camera from the Lock Screen or from the home screen doesn???t change anything. Just swipe up and close the camera app when you are done and you should be good to go.

    I thought it was a bad idea to kill iOS apps.

    You're confused. Swiping up simply switches you back to the Lock Screen.

    And force quitting iOS apps isn't bad, except that you actually make
    your device work harder (and consume more energy) the next time you open
    the app(s) in question.

    ... but still a good way to reset an app if needed. Which is rare for
    most apps.
