A man was convicted last week in the repeated sexual assault of a child in Morris County.
Alexander Masariego-Flores, 45, formerly of Morristown, was found guilty
by a jury on Friday, Dec. 6, the Morris County ProsecutorÆs Office said in
a news release on Wednesday. The trial lasted just three days.
The verdicts found Masariego-Flores guilty of three counts of aggravated
sexual assault, two counts of sexual assault and two counts of endangering
the welfare of a child.
The abuse was reported on Sept. 16, 2023. Following an investigation into
the matter, detectives accused Masariego-Flores of sexually assaulting a
child multiple times at a home in Morristown between February and
September of 2023.
Another child was also in the room during one of the assaults, authorities said. Prosecutors have not disclosed the age of the two children.
Masariego-Floresæ sentence will be subject to the Jessica Lunsford Act,
making him ineligible for parole until he serves 25 years, and the No
Early Release Act, which will require him to sere 85% of his sentence
before he is eligible for parole.
His sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 21, 2025.
