A Southern California teen was arrested after his ex-girlfriend was found
shot to death in Long Beach.
The suspect, who was only identified as a 17-year-old male due to his age,
is accused of the shooting death of Justice Lopez, 21, according to the
Long Beach Police Department.
Lopez and the suspect were in a prior dating relationship but had broken
up, authorities said.
On Nov. 22, police responded to reports of an injured woman in the 900
block of Gaviota Avenue at around 11:42 a.m.
Arriving officers found Lopez lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound to her upper body.
Paramedics transported her to a local hospital where she was pronounced
dead. No suspects were found at the scene. Investigators later determined
a male suspect had approached Lopez inside her home and fatally shot her.
Detectives believed it was a targeted homicide.
On Nov. 26, the teen suspect was located on the 6100 block of Orange
Avenue where he was arrested for two unrelated no-bail warrants.
Following his arrest, detectives processed evidence and pursued leads on
the murder case which later identified the 17-year-old as the prime
suspect, police said.
The circumstances surrounding LopezÆs murder, including her ex-boyfriendÆs motive, remain under investigation.
On Dec. 2, authorities presented the case to the Los Angeles County
District AttorneyÆs Office.
Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call Long Beach
homicide detectives Oscar Valenzuela or Michael Hubbard at 562-570-7244.
