    The other day portage wanted to upgrade quite a number of packages: some from source and some from Gentoo binpkgs. Rather than laboriously picking out just the binpkgs by hand, I told portage to upgrade -K. It wanted to update 246 packages!

    It seems that, if a more recent package exists, it will be remerged willy- nilly, whether it's a real upgrade or not.

    I hope portage isn't meant to work this way...

    Please post the command your are using, and also the whole output from
    emerge. Adding the --tree option to the emerge command could also be
    useful.
