    Hi,
I have an ASUS 1001P with Rev 1202 BIOS. It does not recognize the hard drives boot sector. Apparently ASUS was aware of this and created a
Boot-Tool for Linux that runs on Windows. I can't get that thing to work on XP or Windows 7. It asks for a bootable CD ROM, but when I provide one, nothing happens. It just doesn't work. I downloaded a newer version of the BIOS, but the only way to install the upgraded BIOS is from a fully working Windows 7 on the EeePC. That can't happen, because I've already installed Debian 12 on the hard drive.

Any help I can get with this would be highly appreciated.

    I also have an EEEPC.

    Some suggestions:
    1. As far as I know, some BIOS can be flashed with an USB-stick. This USB- stick is loading a DOS (mostly FreeDOS), then installing. Look for this solution in the web.

    2. If you have no windows installed, create an USB-stick with a windows-live- image and boot it. Then you might be able to install the new BIOS using this environment. Easiiest way is either to use some Windows-XP licve (for example Ultimate Boot CD or Falcon4) or some newer live cd like "Hiren's BootCD PE". They can all be installed on an USB-stick or started with a stick made from famous YUMI.

    3. The EEEPC has in its BIOS a setting, for starting Windows faster (dunno how it is called, mine got it no more). Disable this. Also disable "Max CPUID Limit", it is not needed. And make sure, the BIOS knows about your harddrive. There are two settings in the BIOS: One is "Boot Device Priority" must be pointing to the harddrive, of course, and the other one is "Harddisk Disk Drives", here you have to set the internal hardrive at first (I am sure, you know this already, just wanted to be sure, to mention it).

Hope this helps a little bit.

    Good luck!

    Hans
