Sorry for the noise. To answer my own question : During installation, whether manual or graphical, when partitioning drives, 1) Select existing RAID drive, 2)
Specify "Use as EXT4", 3) Specify "Do not erase", 4) Specify mount point.

    Check twice before clicking. Roger

I have to replace a dead SSD and re-install Debian 12.  I use Graphical Install with manual partitioning of the disks so that I can specify
mount points for my existing RAID partitions on spinning disks.  During
the specification of my new partitions I made a mistake, and selected
"Go Back" to correct the error. This took me to "Guided Partitioning"
which does not allow me to specify mount points for RAID partitions.

To prevent a data disaster, it is best to disconnect all drives except
the target drive when installing an OS. Once the OS is up and running,
    then connect you data drives.
