• Freeze exception for gridengine?

From Wouter Verhelst@21:1/5 to All on Thu May 8 18:30:01 2025
    Hi,

I see on https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/gridengine the following:

    Issues preventing migration:
∙ blocked by freeze: is not in testing

The issue here was fallout after the Rules-Requires-Root change in
unstable. I had uploaded a fix for that on the 7th of April, fixed by
Adrian Bunk on the 11th, but it did not reach testing in time.

Unfortunately, due to me being more busy than I'd have liked, this was
just a bit too late to get back into testing in time for the freeze.

The gridengine package is a popular batch queueing system to schedule
jobs on a cluster of nodes; it is used at least by the debconf video
team and FOSDEM as a dependency of SReview, and it would be quite
involved if I'd have to switch to something else...

Is there still a possibility for a freeze exception?

    Thanks,

    I will have a Tin-Actinium-Potassium mixture, thanks.

To me, it seems the issue was a FTBFS bug (#1075042) that went unfixed
and resulted in the auto-removal of gridengine from testing in August
    2024.

Yes. I seem to recall gridengine also needing an unblock after freeze
for a previous release. Would the debconf video team consider taking
    over maintenance of this package?

Please use the documented procedure 'Applying for an unblock' [1] for
future requests. At least, file a bug against the release.debian.org meta-package and tag it appropriately. 'reportbug' should do the
    right thing.

    Regards
    Graham
