• release process and GR impact

From Mo Zhou@21:1/5 to All on Mon May 5 21:10:01 2025
    Hi release team,

As you may have seen there is a on-going GR on AI models.
I oversaw the maximum discussion period limit and did not think about
the potential impact of GR to the trixie release.

How is the GR impact handled for the stable release process?

In particular, is following-up with a fresh GR result the release
goal of trixie? And, we surely need some time to implement the
impact, if the GR result is not "none of the above". Is new source
packages allowed for stable update, due to the package split as
a potential result of the GR?

How many packages would be affected by the GR? How many of those are key packages? How many of those are essential for d-i?

We are past the point of allowing new source packages. But without
impact analysis, nobody will be able to provide you an answer.

I was not following the discussion of the GR in much detail, but for me
it seems that Jeremy summarized the state of the proposed GR quite
    clearly in
    CAD+GYvzC1eKnOf_9D75JvmCrjY1LEMz5QhTOvtQ6g5gmujoLLw@mail.gmail.com:

"I am unclear on whether existing packages in Debian are affected. Your proposal does not indicate whether the GR would be effective
    immediately."

    Cheers
