The following occurs on a fully updated Debian 12.9 bookworm. After the recent kernel update, the system or the GUI started to sometimes freeze during or after wakening up from sleep. The lockup happens only sometimes; most wakeups go well.
During the first freeze upon wakeup, the system locked up completely. The screen was black; the net interface was not responsive to ping/ssh; the keyboard numlock lights blinked when pressing any key. To reboot, I needed to physically turn off the power
supply (the usual reboot and power buttons didn't help).
During the second freeze upon wakeup, only the GUI locked up. I saw the GDM welcome screen asking me for my password, but when I typed in my password (probably, wrongly), the GUI froze a second or so after me having hit the [Enter] key (i.e., during the
usual waiting time when the password has been typed in wrongly). I could still ssh to the machine, issue kill -9 -1 as a user and then ssh again and issue `kill -9 -1` as a root. However, trying to `reboot` then didn't help. So I had to press and hold
Alt while hitting and releasing SysRq REISUB; only then the machine rebooted. Afterward, in the journal, I discovered this for the time after waking up:
