    On a related note:

Randy Pitchford, CEO Gearbox (developer of Borderlands), tweeted* in
2019 that the Epic Game Store "will outpace Valve’s substantially" and
that "Steam in five or ten years [will] look like a dying store".
Also, "Epic will inevitably surpass Valve on features and quality of service".

It also amuses me that Gearbox announced "Borderlands 4" yesterday, doubtlessly expecting that the excitement about the movie would help
to hype up the game. Maybe they should have looked at the daily rushes
before scheduling the game's release date.

These tweets, the movie, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Duke Nukem
Forever... you know, it suddenly occurs to me that Pitchford may not
be the best person to lead a business. ;-)

    * here's an article about this very topic! https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/gearbox-boss-randy-pitchford-predicted-that-the-epic-games-store-would-kill-off-steam-5-years-ago-now-the-internet-is-mocking-him-as-borderlands-4-comes-crawling-back/

That's just so horribly wrong it's laughable. Some of the responses
mentioned in article did make me chuckle though.

It's not really a surprise though. The early trailers --which
typically show the best a movie has to offer-- were pretty terrible.
The "Borderlines" franchise seemed such an unlikely source material
for a movie anyway; it is an extremely shallow game with extremely
dumb humor and writing that I think_any_ director/writer would be hard-pressed to make something good out of it. Still, Lionsgate really
seemed to be dredging out the bottom of the barrel with this one.

Well I've played Tales From The Borderlands by Telltale games and that
managed to have a story that was enjoyable but still based in
Borderlands, some interesting characters and moments that didn't make me
laugh out loud but certainly got a small chuckle. So it's not as though
it can't be done with the right people involved. The movie sounds like a
right turkey though and something that I have no intention of putting
    myself through just in case.

While in general I don't disagree with Pitchford's take (even if
saying thatmakes me feel dirty), I do refute the idea that Valve takes
more than it gives back. Yes, it's 30% cut seems high at first
glance... until you remember that price is less than retail
brick-n-mortar stores used to take. Developers flocked to Steam
because it was much CHEAPER to sell on Steam than to press CDs, print
boxes, ship the things to thousands of stores, and then only get a few
weeks on the shelf before their games got shoved to the bargain bin.
And yet, these same publishers still managed to make a profit.

Like you I kinda agree with the sentiment but also find it somewhat hypocritical coming from a company that was more than happy to slap a
£60 cost on a game and I presume when Borderlands 4 is released it will
be £70 just for the base game. I somehow doubt that he ever put his hand
up and said are we really giving our customers enough for that price,
couldn't we reduce it and still make a handsome profit.

Well, it makes sense to announce games in a game conference, like
GamesCon. But I think they'll hope to forget the movie as quickly as
possible. Funny, I checked my local theatre. For the upcoming four
showings of Borderlands the movie I see 104/104 seats available. And not showing it on Friday or Saturday either.

BTW, I'm not having high hopes for Borderlands 4. The gameplay in
Borderlands 3 was already so streamlined and at least one of the
characters so over-powered, it makes me wonder what the next one will be
like. "Just hold this button and watch the game play itself"? It's hard
to imagine anything but suckiness. Still, I'm probably going to play it
and probably sooner rather than later too.

"inevitably" ... I have to go Princess Bride on this.

    Which one was overpowered?

I hate melee in games like this so I never played the chunky Siren on
offer in Bl3, despite Sirens being my favorite in the previous games.

The soldier girl Moze and her mech. Even in the second playthrough
nothing changed, I could just melt everything in my way in the mech. For
sure I was a little more vulnerable on foot in PT2 but I could be in the
mech almost all the time by then.

Yes, I didn't get much anywhere with her. Liked the other three, Zane
with the shield and drone, FL4K with the SMG toting pet and loads of
crits, even after they nerfed that.
