I take it that involves a brainless brains quest?
It's Thursday? How can it be Thursday? I'm pretty sure it's only been
two or three days since the last time we did this. Has somebody been
using the Time Warp machine without authorization again? I hate it
when that happens. Oh well, at least we get free games.
* World War Z Aftermath
https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/world-war-z
A continuation/add-on to the World War Z game, which
is included in this package. It's an zombie TPS game,
and a fairly generic one at that, with its biggest
gimmick being the large hordes of zombies it renders.
It's mainly designed as an online co-op shooter, but
you can play it solo. It's not bad -arguably even
better mechanically than "Left For Dead"-- but it lacks
in story and can be a bit grindy and dependent on its
various DLC packages to spice up the main experience.
That said, it isn't a bad game and if you want to run
around shooting zombies, this game will do as well as
any other. But if you're finding the whole 'killing
zombies' thing a bit old in the tooth, this game won't
convince you otherwise. Note: the base game was a
freebie give-away back in March 2020, and I think you
get the "Aftermath" add-on automatically, so you may
already have this one on Epic.
* Garden Story
https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/garden-story
A rather unusual JRPG where you're the heroic vegetable
tasked with protecting your grove. It's an odd cross of
Stardew Valley and the Legend of Zelda (more of the
latter, though), with the usual retro-graphic sheen. It's
not very difficult and a bit cutesy, but otherwise an
okay title, if you're into that style of game. It could
use a bit more polish though, with clumsy controls and
unexciting combat. Overall, an okay game mainly aimed at
fans of the classic JRPG genre who want something a bit
different.
That's it for this week. You've got the usual seven days to claim
these before they're no longer free. Less if somebody starts playing
around with the time-warp machine again. Until next time!
