Am I too late with this one? I'm trying to keep to the schedule of
twice per month, but it's not easy; there's just SO MANY free games
being given away these days (and we're not even in the holiday frenzy
yet!) that I sometimes can't keep up. Let's hurry through this list
before even more games pile up.

[And I mean that quite literally; four new games were added to
the list between the time I started writing this article and
by the time I got to the end]

    * Tomb Raider: Legend (via GOG)
The _first_ reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise. It wasn't
a bad game for its time, but it definitely hasn't aged well,
neither in visuals nor gameplay. Just the character model looks
so freakily over-proportioned that I've a hard time playing the
    game

The original game was great, the remake sucked because of A quick time
events that took control of the game from you, and the shiny new
mechanic they added of the grappling hook that required you to leap off
ledges and then throw the grapple or fall to your death. No one would
do that in real life, and mostly tomb raider stuck to things daring
    people would do.
Always hate it when games add stupid jumping puzzle, fall to your death
then reload and try again, metrics to a game (usually to extend it's
    short playtime.

    <snip>
    * Black Desert (via itself)
An MMORPG; very grindy if the reviews are to be believed.

You can get up to level 60 or so in a day or 3, but after that it's gets grindy, for the simple reason it uses the original D&D experience rules,
every level is double the last.

Or you say to hell with the grind and just life skill, cooking, fishing, gathering, etc. Fishing is AFK able - it'll auto catch after 3
minutes (modified by pets and gear,) so you can fish overnight while
sleeping and wake up with a load of fish to sell.

Heh, I never turn off the computer anyway...

    * Kerbal Space Program (via GOG)
I think we're all at least _familiar_ with this game,
even if we've never played it. Take your kerbals to the
moon (and beyond!) with this surprisingly accurate
orbital-physics simulator. Its learning curve is not
the easiest, and it's more 'software toy' than game, but
if you put the effort into it, it's surprisingly fun.

I bought this some time back and really, REALLY wanted to like it but
the d*mn interface and controls were just so BAD that I gave up and
    removed it from my computer.

There is another game like it with what looked like a better UI that I
wanted to try but I've forgotten what it is called. :(

I've done good in this world. Now I'm tired and just want to be a cranky
    dirty old man.
